Publisher's summary

Internationally best-selling author John Connolly returns with another "superb fusion of noir and the supernatural" (My Bookish Ways) in this latest thriller in his gripping Charlie Parker series.

It is deep winter, and the darkness is unending. A private detective named Jaycob Eklund has vanished, and Charlie Parker is assigned to track him down. Parker's employer, Edgar Ross, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has his own reasons for wanting Eklund found. Eklund is no ordinary investigator - he is obsessively tracking a series of homicides and disappearances, each linked to reports of hauntings. Now Parker is drawn into Eklund's world: a realm in which the monstrous Mother rules a crumbling criminal empire, in which men strike bargains with angels, and in which the innocent and guilty alike are pawns in a game of ghosts....

Need a Playbill...!

I’ve read/listened to every single book in the series as most folks on here have. This is the first book that had so many characters it made it almost impossible to keep up. It should have come with a cast of characters like playbills do! My only hope is the next book fills in the gaps in this story.

The Collector

I am upset about how it ended, he was my favorite character and deserved better. The story was good but the recurring theme of closed communities is starting to wear down. How ever how the hollow men acted on this one was good.

Jeff Harding

So many voices n distinct accents add so to John’s extraordinary writing They pull me into this supernatural world, punctuated by dialogue between Angel, Louis n Charlie that ways pulls a smile n maybe a laugh out of me.

Ty to both author n narrator

Another fine Charlie Parker novel

Only complaint is I wish the overarching storyline would be advanced a bit more. Otherwise, another creepy, exciting, and entertaining addition to the Charlie Parker series.

Now that's interesting

This is a really good book. Different but very good! It's in the "I did not see that coming" category.

great Charlie Parker story

great Charlie Parker story but the narration got in the way. The Mexican accent bordered on slapstick and was stereotyped. Previous reviewers stated that there were too many characters and I agree.
