Publisher's summary

Aggie Malone is a dedicated young cop who has spent her entire life just looking for a place to call home. She never thought she'd find it in a quaint Florida village called Dogleg Island, where almost nothing ever happens.

Deputy Ryan Grady is an easygoing playboy who carries a surf board in the trunk of his patrol car and lives in the same rambling beach cottage his grandfather built 70 years ago. He grew up on Dogleg Island and can't imagine ever living anywhere else. It's always been the most peaceful place he has ever known.

Flash is a black and white, blue eyed border collie with amazing powers of perception, recollection, and deduction. He was born to be nothing more than a pampered family pet, however, and his skills might never have been uncovered.

A single night of blood and terror changed the lives of these three forever, and forged a bond between them that nothing will ever break. While each of them struggles to deal with the scars left by that night, they must also bring a killer to justice - a killer who is also stalking them. And only Flash knows who it is.

Well written and entertaining

I especially liked the amount of information about dogs included. I plan on listening to her other books.

I hope that she continues the series

Great book, Interesting information about Border Collies. like the location and the characters. The idea of having a bullet left in your brain is interesting and makes the story unusual.

Performance

I’ve never written a review because I’m just not very picky so this will be my first. Put short and not so sweet, that is the worst “performance “ I’ve ever listened. The whole story was read in a boring monotone. The description of a shooting was in the same tone as someone sleeping, no change in inflection at all. HOPE I never listen to that person again.

almost enjoyable

I believe it was a good story. Narrator did nothing for the story. While she had excellent diction her monotone was exceedingly frustrating. I would love to hear her again if she would put some emotion into the reading!!

So glad there's another series by this author

I'm a fan of the Raine Stockton series and am thrilled to start this other dog mystery series by the same author, Donna Ball. Just the right balance of action and suspense. Nice character development. And even some romance. The dog Flash's perspective adds interesting cross species dimension to the story.

Can't wait for the next Flash audiobook for

It only took a few minutes of listening to Flash and I knew this was a special story. You feel connected to the people & place. The narrator sounds so genuine in how she tells the story, really brings them to life. Thank you Donna Ball for another great mystery. I really hope you continue with Flash, Aggie, Grady & the rest of group. Right up there with The Raine Stockton Mysteries.

A Book For Dog Lovers

Overall a good, easy to Listen to mystery, but the narrator seemed bored most of the time, especially when reading some of the author's information dumps. There was a LOT of information about dogs, which IMO was not germane to plot. Another narrator might have livened up the story.
The author includes the dog's POV narrative, which did not work for me because I didn't believe the dog would know as much as the author attributed to it.
There were what I thought were in-your-face hints which revealed the antagonist early on, and IMO the human protagonists were slow to discover his identity.
Yes, dog-lovers, the dog knew who the bad guy was! I enjoyed reading about the dog's alleged thought processes as to how he reached his conclusions and decided who and why the antagonist was bad.
