Publisher's summary

Where does innocence go?

While vacationing on the beach at Emerald Isle, North Carolina, high school student David Jennings meets an intriguing girl. Mary Roberts ignites feelings that stay with him even after they both return to their homes. Summer after summer they reunite, building on the love that started to bloom from the first day.

Not only does David discover romance, but he also learns what family can mean. The loving Roberts family is in stark contrast to the Jenningses. David is the only child of Roy, an ex-marine and rigid cop, and secretive Sarah. As the young couple explores their future, the family secrets unravel - until tragic events manage to both bring together and divide the two families.

Young Love Lost is a tale of romance and suspense that will keep you guessing until the end.

The plot twist will amaze you!

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I have listened to by Doug Burris, and I am so glad that I now have found him. At first, I thought this was going to be a sweet romance, a couple of teenagers at the beach, summer love, a little mystery...boy was I wrong! While the romance between David and Mary was the focus, the underlying current of David's parents and Mary's family were just as important. Learning the happy family is not always as it appears in Mary's case was reassuring that all families carry their own baggage. But David's parents...just when you think his dad while at times tender is just very controlling, you find his mom...and that is all I will say! Total plot twist holding you til the very end!

The narration of this book by Anna Starr was very good, consistent with voices and her inflection as the suspense grew made you want to keep listening. This was a great book, highly recommended.

Okay Story Horrible Narrator

the narrator was super monotone and it made it really hard to get into the story, plus her lisp was driving me nuts. the story was alright overall but it was pretty easy to guess what was going on.

Review from a Carolina girl

Narrator was monotone and mispronounced words. In the future, I will avoid books she narrates. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make it through the book because of the narration. There was no feeling or emotion in her voice. No real change with character shifts. I am interested in more books by the author as long as the narration is by a different person. I'm usually not so critical but it is my opinion that if you are going to be the voice of the book you should at least attempt to research and pronounce city names correctly and use lingo appropriately.

So breathy it was distracting

Would you be willing to try another one of Anna Starr’s performances?

I don't think so. So many technical issues ... background noise and gasping breaths mid sentence.

Not a Typical Teenage Love Story

Really enjoyed this tale of teenagers Mary and David~what started as a beach romance turned out to be so much more. Great character development, most very likable (except "Carla"). Started out slowly, picked up quickly, and the epilogue was perfect. Recommended.....

Love stories where I'm familar with the setting

What made the experience of listening to Young Love Lost the most enjoyable?

I always like hearing stories of places that I know about. So any story with the NC coast is an instant buy. Good storyline and likeable characters. I was hooked and needed to read the second story immediately. Looking forward to the last book in the series as well.
