Publisher's summary

Andrea Boyle moved to Seattle to give her 17-year-old nephew, Spencer, a fresh start after the deaths of his parents. Andrea has found her own new beginning with Luke, a successful playwright and father of a teenage son, Damon. The boys appear to have little in common, but in truth they share a private torment....

When a tragedy befalls Damon, it's just the beginning of a nightmare that unfolds. But the worst is yet to come once a dark secret from Spencer's past is exposed. And when Luke is brutally attacked, both of their futures are at stake.

Now it's up to Andrea to prove Spencer's innocence to the police - and to herself. Because for reasons she has revealed to no one, even Andrea can't help but question the truth and fear that she may be next to pay the ultimate price.

I enjoyed it

Pretty far out there plot, but enjoyed listening. I didn't like the narrator because he sounded old and the story is about young people. The worst part of the narration is him doing the voices of the young guys.

Another winner Mr. O'Brien. Loved the characters and the twists and turns. I am never let down with a Kevin O'Brien novel. Narration was excellent also.

Yet another interesting storyline

O’Brien is once again a masterful storyteller. So much so I have literally been binge reading his books. He keeps you enthralled, as well as invested in his characters, to the very last word. For the most part, the narration was spot on. However, the voice of the exboyfriend who was still in high school, sounded like an elderly man who had a lifetime of smoking too many cigars which was a little offputting as did some of the male and female ancillary characters.

Good story, too long

I’ve listened to several books from this author and overall, I like his books. The only thing is, the author tends to drag out the story until it becomes exhausting to listen to. There’s just too much insignificant details and I find myself skipping a lot of the chapters. Overall, I do like this author, just wish he would shorten some of the details.

Side note: narrator needs to realize just because some of the characters aren’t white, doesn’t mean they have accents. That’s very stereotypical and annoying. Not all minorities are first generation Americans or have accents. Do better!

Never a dull moment!

This storyline highlights the lifelong damage school bullying and abuse can cause. Also, unsecured home guns and unaddressed victim withdrawal.

Another great book

Kevin does it again with another story that is a slow burn and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Great characters and great ending.

Twists and Turns!

I didn't let the twists and turns change who I thought was behind the horrible events...and I was right! The author really knows how to write a twisted tale! My only complaint is with the narrator who sounded like he had been drinking through much of the story.

Kevin O’Brien did it again!

This book may be the best one yet! I was nervous and scared, I was sad, all of the emotions. I love the way everything unfolded.
