Sunday Night Is Not Peaceful But Driven

A real departure for Reichs. This novel is about a woman, Sunday Night, who has had a rough life. She is living on Goat Island off the coast of South Carolina and only has company of a squirrel named Bob, and an old man who took her in when she was a kid. You don't find out her story until well into the book but you keep wondering because it sounds very similar to the girl she is hunting for. The whole book is about finding the missing girl, believed to have survived after a bomb exploded. This is a very well written book and it just reels you in. the characters are not soft and loving but are hard edged and all seem to be loners. Sunday is the lead and she is fascinating. She is brave, strong, mad as hell at everyone and everything. I read this in two days because I had to take time out for my own life. the narrator is superb and she is what makes the story so bone chilling. If you like the Temperance Brennan stories, you'll find this one different but still with a strong female investigator. Coleen Marlo and Kim Mai Guest bring their characters to life.
