Would you listen to Twice Bitten again? Why?
Yes, I will listen to it again in a couple of months just because it is fun to listen to a suspense story unfold as only Joe Perrone Jr. writes it. I don't think I missed anything in listening to the book the first time, but it will be interesting to follow it again because now I know the gist of the story and will concentrate on the details of each happening more carefully.
What did you like best about this story?
The way it unfolds chapter by chapter. Even though the venue changes from one chapter to the next, you feel you are following all the parts of the real life of Matt Davis. Things in a regular life don't involve just one thing at a time. This book has many things happening in both a review of the past plus the evolving of the present. With Joe Perrone Jr's writing style, you don't lose track of anything. You pick up each chapter right where it left off. I didn't forget anything as I listened hour by hour because it unfolded logically. The sound of the rattlesnake at the end of some of the chapters also made me shiver but pulled me to want to keep listening and find out what was going to happen next.
Which character – as performed by Shane Morris – was your favorite?
But of course, Matt Davis. But I also liked the personal voice portrayal of Matt's wife and her struggles with finding cancer in her breast. It was well written and spoken to show that we may have a job that is very important and has to be done, but when family (especially the wife) has health worries, that becomes the top priority. People have to come before process. I enjoyed Shane Morris switching voices for each character. His portrayal of Matt's secretary was priceless. It made their banter between each other so very real. Both were in charge of what each does best. Matt respected her and she respected Matt. Loved it! Such fun!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The love of Matt Davis for his wife. It was easy to feel they were in this cancer scare together, even though Matt tends to be forgetful now and then of what his wife is living with every moment of her day until she could finally heal enough to let him see the scar. Health worries can remove the feeling of sexuality and wanting to be touched. For a man author, I was impressed with how sincerely Joe Perrone Jr. wrote of her need to have time to heal physically as well as emotionally before sex could become comfortable again for both of them.
Any additional comments?
I absolutely loved Twice Bitten! I'm looking forward to buying another audio book written by Mr. Perrone Jr. I can follow his patterns of thinking and visualize all that he has written through sound. Loved this experience, just simply loved it. With my own aging mind, this was my first audio book. I found it much easier to follow than trying to concentrate on paragraphs of a regular book. This is an easy 5 star review. Now, on to the next audio book by Joe Perrone Jr. Can hardly wait!
Which scene was your favorite?
A good detective mystery involving Matt Davis. It is interesting enough that I listened to the audiobook in its entirety. The narrator made it very interesting.
