Publisher's Summary

Charlie Harris is stressed out. The Southern Academic Libraries Association is holding this year's annual meeting at Athena College. Since Charlie is the interim library director, he must deliver the welcome speech to all the visiting librarians. And as if that weren't bad enough, the keynote address will be delivered by Charlie's old nemesis from library school.
It's been 30 years since Charlie has seen Gavin Fong, and he's still an insufferable know-it-all capable of getting under everyone's skin. In his keynote, Gavin puts forth a most unpopular opinion: that degreed librarians will be obsolete in the academic libraries of the future. So when Gavin drops dead, no one seems too upset...but Charlie, who was seen having a heated argument with Gavin the day before, has jumped to the top of the suspect list. Now Charlie and Diesel must check out every clue to refine their search for the real killer among them before the next book Charlie reads comes from a prison library....

Something is missing

I enjoy this series; however it appears there was a problem with this recording. It appears there is 1 to 2pages missing from chapter 27 and 1 page missing from the last chapter. Randy's broken arm just shows up. In the last chapter, it jumps from night to the next day with no explanation.

Excellent addition to the series!

Charlie has been acting director of the library at Athena College, which is hosting a librarian conference, when he sees that the keynote speaker at this conference is a former classmate, someone he had once punched over the man's coming onto Charlie's wife! History repeats itself when the odious Gavin Fong insults Charlie and then takes a swing at him three times before Charlie hits him once.

The next day Gavin goes to give his speech when he dies of cyanide poisoning when he takes a drink from his water bottle. As the man who had supposedly almost put Gavin in the hospital by beating him up, as the rumor mill puts it, Charlie faces a lot of suspicion of his guilt. But he soon learns that Gavin has been so terrible to everyone he encounters that the list of who liked the man is down to one and the list of enemies pages long. But Charlie narrows down his suspect list to a dozen people who attended a party thrown by Gavin and who might have had the opportunity to poison the water.

This book was a whole lot of fun and lived up to the same high quality of the previous books in the series. The plot was well-planned and the conclusion creative. My one disappointment was how little we got to see of Charlie's family and close friends.

The narration was well done, even though the book is narrated by Charlie and the audio version by Erin Bennett. However, she has proven to be an effective choice. I really like the job she does in this book.

in sum, I really liked listening to this book, and it was well worth its purchase!
