Publisher's summary

A newly belligerent Chinese government leaves US President Jack Ryan with only a few desperate options in this continuation of the number one New York Times best-selling Tom Clancy series.

Jack Ryan is dealing with an aggressive challenge from the Chinese government. Pawns are being moved around a global chessboard: an attack on an oil platform in Africa, a terrorist strike on an American destroyer, and a storm-tossed American spy ship that may fall into Chinese hands. It seems that President Zhao is determined to limit Ryan's choices in the upcoming G20 negotiations.

But there are hints that there's even more going on behind the scenes. A routine traffic stop in rural Texas leads to a shocking discovery - a link to a Chinese spy who may have intelligence that lays bare an unexpected revelation. John Clark and the members of the Campus are in close pursuit, but can they get the information in time?

Critic reviews

“Superior...Cameron delivers plenty of action along with the spycraft and weapons details that Tom Clancy fans have always loved...Cameron successfully juggles the three separate plot lines, each engrossing on its own, and seamlessly stitches them together by novel’s end...All the writers who have contributed to this series since Clancy’s death have been good, but Cameron’s formidable performance puts him at the head of the pack.” (Publishers Weekly)

“[Cameron] enters Clancyworld with the chops to allow the formidable Clark and the president-we-wish-we-had Ryan to save the world again...Another turbocharged, take-no-prisoners Ryan yarn.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“Marc Cameron has written a perfectly played ‘chess match’ that would certainly make Tom Clancy proud. Jack Ryan has remained, through more than a few authors who have taken on the job, a formidable hero that no one has been able to match. Having the new ‘spice’ that Cameron has added to the series offers a fresh voice to a world that will continue for some time.” (Suspense Magazine)

Excellent as always!

Only thing bad about this Ryan series audiobook is the wait and anticipation for the next release... Tom would be proud to see his beloved characters continue on their journey...

Unabridged always.

At times spot on

With so many threads it was a bit confusuin at first but about 1/2 way through the story began to take shape. John C. and Jack Sr. and Jr. have long been some of my favorite characters and I'd love to read more about Mr. C's early exploits in Nam.

Outstanding

TOM would be proud. Good story that kept moving even with some difficult names.

Sad that I have to wait so long for the next book

Mark Camerlon has kept the style and attitude of Tom Clancy. I think Tom would be proud of this written story.

I have read or listened to all of Jack Ryan book series and this has equaled all so far.

Clancy is in good hands. Great read.

I think Cameron has found Clancy's recipe for the eleven secret spices. I love that we returned to John Clark's origin story (as it was one of my favorite stories from Clancy.) I love that the gang is all included, plus a couple of new members that fit well. And I especially love that President Ryan doesn't spend hours navel gazing about being president. He just likes the Navy Stewards' coffee and gets on with the action.

It's been hit or miss so far, post-Tom Clancy, depending on which author is up...but this is a hit for sure.

John Clark is the best.

My favorite character in all of Ryanverse. Unlike some of the previous stories that were a bit boring the last two are great
