Beast audible so far.

I have used audible for the last 3 Charlie Parker books and honestly I didn't like it the voice that was narrating it was just terrible. No emotion and it just kind of ruined the story but this one I felt like the voice fit perfectly for a Charlie Parker type book this was my favorite one so far.

Ridiculous Narrator & Storylines: RETURNED IT!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Ok, I started this new searies a few weeks ago and blazed through books 1 & 2. Book 3 had some serious issues with a faltering storyline and a ridiculous reader. I didn't think it could get much worse so I gave this book a try.

When did Charlie Parker start having an INTENSE Boston accent?

When did Louis start sounding like a bad Mexican sterotype?

Why does Angel sound like Eyore?

Some of the other charachters were protrayed with a bad Jewish and Mafia goomba sterotypical voices?

Not to mention the narrator's inability to keep his accents from flowing over between charachters. You're not always sure who is talking for a few minutes until his vocal waverings clear up or someone address the character who had been speaking by name. The narrator is not the Charlie Parker of books 1 & 2.

Narrator aside, the story is convoluted with too many switches to locations and time.

The allusions to Parker's powers is again WEAK! Why did they even add this thread to the series if it is not going to be developed. He doesn't call on his ability. He is just bugged by it on occasion, but not so much to really impact his role.

This could have been better if it had gone through a re-write and a new narrator. I am no longer willing to even preview these books. John Connoly has lost a customer.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Certainly not John Connoly and the Charlie Parker series. I'll continue to do crime and other thrillers.

What didn’t you like about Paul Birchard’s performance?

HE SUCKED!!! His accents were ridicuous stereotypes. He blended them together when he switched from character to character. He just didn't sound "man" enough to pull off being charlie...or any of the other characters. His best role? RACHEL

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The White Road?

Most of them! Just too much prattling on and unecessary adjective, adverbs and too many obtuse similies and metaphors.

The graphic violence is getting pretty ridiculous and is the same from book to book despite the change in villians!

Any additional comments?

I've returned it. Very sad I wasted any time on it.
