Publisher's Summary

Sam doesn't have a business card. Nothing that says Samuel W. Callahan, Political Tracker, Esq. Instead, he gets paid to hide in crowds, following candidates on the campaign trail to record their every misstep, public and private. It's something Sam's oddly good at since he grew up on the streets. And it's not like he has anyone waiting for him at home. After a life spent in and out of foster care, Sam isn't very good at getting close to people, or letting people get close to him. He just needs enough money to finish up at Georgetown Law and find a decent job so he can finally stop running.
But when Sam witnesses something that could destroy a rising political star, he has no choice but to run. In the line of fire, Sam must outrun the memories of his past if he wants to have any hope of outrunning an assassin's bullets.

New series with Tons of Potential!

Have you listened to any of Justin D. Torres’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Never listened to JustinTorres before but thought he did a great job. Will certainly look for more with him narrating.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to it in one day.

Any additional comments?

Very very good book. Nonstop suspense from the first paragraph. Sam Callahan has been shuffled around his whole life, given up at birth, lived on the streets and spent time in juvenile detention for car theft at 16 y/o. Taken in by a minster he had previously helped out, who saw potential in him. Sam completed his GED and went on to college with a goal of becoming a street lawyer. To earn $ he becomes a "tracker". Basically he gets hired to watch politicians for indiscretions their opponents can use against them.
Within minutes of the beginning of the book and only days before the presidential election Sam records a video on his phone of the presidential front runner kill a woman in a hotel room. Sam is spotted and the race is on. Multiple agencies are involved, some want to help him, some want to kill him and Sam has no idea which is which. Meanwhile everyone of his friends that he talks to is murdered. He's afraid for his girlfriend and his mother's lives.
The fast pace of the story is believable. No super human tricks but instead street smarts and intelligence.
No spoilers but this book has a completely unexpected yet so satisfying ending.

WOW!! I can't wait for Book 2 in the series!

Shelley is one of the Audible listeners I follow. Just after midnight today I received an email from Audible with Shelley's review of The Tracker by Chad Zunker. I have learned that when Shelley writes a 5 star review, I need to buy the novel because her taste in novels s similar to mine. On the Audible Listener page her reviews usually are listed in the first spot under the "More Mysteries & Thrillers Reviewers".

The Tracker is the recently released first novel by Chad Zunker. It is also the first novel in what will be the Sam Callahan series. It is a wonderful story that likely best fits in the espionage genre although there is no international intrigue. It is a great mystery/thriller with near constant suspense.

It will be fascinating to see where this series goes. It has great potential as espionage as well as legal thrillers.

New author Chad Zunker impresses me with his first novel as few authors have. I could cite Michael Koryta or Lee Child, but The Tracker is better in my opinion than the first published effort of either.

The combination of a wonderful novel and superb narration make The Tracker a must read mystery/thriller.

Finally, the least expensive way to buy this audiobook is using Whispersync for Voice at When one buys the Kindle version for $5.99 the Audible version costs only $1.99 for total cost $7.98. The Audible member price of the book is $13.96 and each Audible credit costs $9.56 to $14.95 depending on the plan.
