Hunting for an heir

Eric Ambler (1909-1998) was a well known British author of spy novels. He also was a scriptwriter for many films. The book "Light of Day" 1962 was made into a film in 1964 as "Topkapi" and it also was lampooned in "The pink panther" 1964. This book was written in 1953 is about a former WWII bomber pilot George Carey, who after the war became an attorney. He obtains a job with a prominent Philadelphia law firm and is assigned the job of reading through a large file of an inheritance case that was put aside during the war. He is off to find the heir, he travels in France, Germany and Greece. He gives excellent descriptions of the post war Europe. Not much action in this book but lots of suspense as he hunts for the heir. The ending is a bit of a surprise. This book is a bit different from his usual spy stories but it is a great story. Eric Meyers does a good job narrating the story.

wow--glad I took a chance on this one!

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and was happy to find this well constructed novel with engaging primary and secondary characters, rich setting (just post-WWII Europe) and a plot that holds the reader's interest. This novel is relatively short. Unlike a prior reviewer, I never felt that it was overwritten. Also, the narration was perfect.
