Publisher's summary

With its manicured lawns, pastel houses, and quiet, tree-lined streets, Willow Ridge seems to be the perfect place for Megan and Tyler Stokes to start a new chapter in their lives together. But soon after settling in, Megan begins to notice cracks in the neighborhood's bright suburban facade - cracks that reveal a darker secret hidden just beneath the surface.

After an angry encounter with a neighbor takes a horrifying turn, Megan's waking nightmare truly begins - growing ever more chilling and bizarre with each shocking twist. Suddenly forced to question everything around her, Megan finds herself trapped between the specter of madness and the shadow of something far worse. Her only hope is to expose the community's pretty lies and discover the truth about what is really going on in Willow Ridge - a truth so devastating that her life will never be the same.

Fast, Fun and Entertaining!

This is a very bizarre book. I like John Rector and all the strange twists his books seem to take. This one is something of a cross between Pet Cemetery, The Stepford Wives and Hmmm!?!
I really can't go into the plot of this book any more than the book description without giving away what this book is about. However, I will say it did hold my attention and kept me entertained and guessing throughout as I tried to figure out what the heck was going on. I wasn't sure if this is a mystery, science fiction or horror.
So, if you're looking for a light fun and fast paced book to spend an afternoon with then I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED this one!
Sara Mollo-Christensen did a very good job narrating, a little slow and so I did have to listen at 1.25 speed.

Creepy and fun hard-core noir sci-fi mystery!

Well, that was an interesting little novel! It's not really my cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. By "hard core noir" I mean very dark, even frighteningly dark. Having read several reviews on Goodreads prior to purchasing the novel, this book was no surprise.

Keeps you guessing...

I really enjoyed this book. I don't want to give anything away, but if you like the old t.v. show Tha Twighlight Zone, you will definitely love this book. Narration was good too!

Good Story

I liked this book. The narrator had a voice that made this easy ro listen to. It did have a Stepdord Wives vibe. Not a lot of surprises in the story.

Amazing until it wasn’t

I was stoked to read this and was even more excited once the story got moving. The twist right in the beginning had me so excited for the many ways this book could go, an original idea that I had yet to read in another book. And the book stayed so strong, keeping me interested until suddenly, it just resolved so quickly and in such an anticlimactic way. I was 15 minutes from the end and honestly had to make myself finish the last fifteen minutes which did nothing to improve my disappointment. I really did love the hook up until the end, I don’t really know what I wanted to happen, but it wasn’t that.

Solid surprise!

This book was a unique escape and a pleasant surprise. The supporting characters held my interest and I wanted to know more about them. Perfect amount of dystopian sci-fi!

Not Rector’s best but good nonetheless

Starts out as a stereotypical “I was forced to live in the suburbs and I hate it” kind of story. Then quickly becomes something a little different. As usual Rector’s books are highly suspenseful and are always straight to the point. The downside of that is that his prose is very bare bones. There are no flashy or sparkling words to spice it up. Another downside of this particular book is that I can’t stand the main character. I don’t mind unlikable characters it’s just that this one is very annoying and clingy and makes you want to slap some sense into her and tell her to grow up. Overall though it’s another good book in John Rector’s resume but probably my least favorite of the bunch.

Interesting, but lacking

I loved The Grove by John Rector, but this novel did not compare. The prose is well-written, but stalls often. I love this author, but this book, while well written, did not have a believable plot line.

Fantastic!

I've read this book twice before listening to it, the book is really good but Sarah's performance puts it over the top!

Intrigingy, unrealistic, scary

The book reminded me of the movie Stepford wives with a twist. A very good story.
