This was a very entertaining book. It is in the tradition of literary pulp fiction like John D MacDonald's Travis McGee series. It was written in the 1980s, but holds up well. It's always nice to listen to a book from the past that doesn't date itself too badly.
The character of Preacher (no name) like Robert B Parker's Spenser (no first name) is very interesting and follows the classic line of a stranger coming to town (in this case he is invited) and solving a mystery that is corrupting the community.
Good narration and quick pace.

The author has a gift for writing, a poet, a word smith. There is no forced dialogue, no conjured story, nothing but great writing with a character you will love. The narration is spot on fantastic, another with the gift of gab and timing. If you don't enjoy the book, and hate the ending there is ice water in your veins.
