Publisher's summary

Fans of John Grisham's legal thrillers will love the suspenseful action and intriguing courtroom drama of James Grippando's bestsellers. In The Pardon, Grippando delivers a scorching tale of vengeance that stains the sultry streets of southern Florida.

Miami defense attorney Jack Swytek has long rebelled against his father, Harry, now Florida's governor. The two disagree on nearly everything, especially the death penalty. And when Harry allows one of Jack's clients - a man Jack believes is innocent - to die in the electric chair, their estrangement seems complete. But when they are faced with a psychopath's twisted game of vengeance, father and son have nowhere to turn but to each other.

Great Series

I love listening to James's books. His characters have human vulnerabilities and i am on the edge of my seat every time I read one. I think the pardon was his first book and although it had a bit of a slow start, suddenly it twisted and I was riveted and couldn't put it down. I love that it is obvious that integrity and personal relationships are an important part of the development of his cast of main characters. Most enjoyable, and my mission is to plough my way through all of his books. Jack the main character sometimes comes across as being naive and it makes me nervous especially when he is dealing with women. I think that this is on purpose and it just makes the story more nerve-racking to see how Jack will come through and not be sucked in by 'wiley women', we know he is basically a good guy. It will be interesting to see how he progresses in the books to come.

Pitifully clichéd...

3 hours into an interesting book, and the author does the worst, most hackneyed, and most obvious plot twist- I won’t give up any secrets, but it’s ridiculously stupid, and so annoying. I assume that these authors won’t do this bc it’s way too predictable.
Turn thing around for the lawyer. Lame.

Unsatisfying

There are so many good reads in this genre, this one is really a disappointment. The characters are unlikable, the plot, thin and predictable, and I don’t enjoy this narrator.

Not bad

I enjoyed this first book in the Jack Swyteck series. The writing and narration are both very good. On the negative side, some of the plot is painfully obvious and some of it is not very believable. I also did not appreciate the sex act portions, which were intended to contribute to the depravity of the antagonist and were part of the overall storyline. Fortunately one of the later books in this series does not have sex act descriptions so I'm hopefully that this was a learning process and the author realized he does not need sex themes to have successful books.

Complex, Scary, Violent, and Enjoyable

A lot of story lines. Some of them are pretty gory and a few are unbelievable.

But I enjoyed the book despite that.

Thoroughly enjoyed it

This was my first book by James Grippando. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will definitely be getting the 2nd book in the series. I liked getting to know the different characters in the story, and liked the main characters a lot.

Loved it!

This book had alot of twists and turns and alot of time I figure them out, but not this time! Great storyline, great charaters, great listening. Ron McLarty is the best narrator by far.

For what it's worth this is MY OPINION...

This is such a. good bad. Ok, this is a fantastic book! I loved it. I a so sorry I listened to the other reviews and didn't get this and the other books in this series years ago. The silver lining is that I have something good to listen to now.
The publisher's summary sets up the story so I won't restate the plot. What I will say is how well this book was written. The characters are believable and well fleshed out. The suspense is intense and the story was able to evoke an emotional response. Nothing sappy, just agitation and frustration as I imagine the main character must have been feeling. To me, that's some good writing!
Just get the book. Nothing to lose, it you don't like it return it! Don't you just love Audible!
Ron McLarty's gruff narration is outstanding.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book.
