Publisher's Summary

It all starts with a phone call in the middle of the night. Part time private investigator/full-time rancher Dutch Evans groggily takes a call from a woman named Sharlene who has a big problem: murder. His empty bank account, and the fact that Sharlene is the daughter of an old flame, is enough to arouse his interest, to the tune of traveling cross country and to the other side of the world in order to find complex answers to what should be a routine investigation. Before he knows it, malice and murder become the status quo for this cowboy P.I. The Odor of Death is a thrill-a-minute ride that lovers of mystery and adventure will not want to miss.

Sorry I listened

I was not impressed with this book. We must remember that all reviews are subjective. Let’s begin by giving you how I use audio books and the basis of my review. I use audio books to make a 45-minute trip to and from the office and long road trips more enjoyable. Therefore, books must have a clear plot, plenty of action and just the right amount of setting the scene without being overly descriptive (disruptive). For me, this book fails in all three categories. Hopefully when I get to the office I do not want to turn off my iPod. In this case, it was a pleasure to turn it off. To my mind, the plot was confusing and the mystery almost non-existent. The detective seemed to float from event to event. As to setting the scene, there was too much and it took away from the story or should I say, confused it.

The narrator simply distracted me rather than drawing me into the action. Nevertheless, let’s be honest, he did not have that much to work with. I guess he did his best.

Overall, this is not a book I would ever pick up again. We all have our good days and so on. I will try another book by this author before I make up my mind about my personal like or dislike.

For me, this was not an enjoyable listen.
