Publisher's Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Barry Eisler...Livia Lone is back.
For sex-crimes detective Livia Lone, a position with a government anti-trafficking task force is a chance to return to Thailand to ferret out Rithisak Sorm, the kingpin behind her own childhood ordeal.
But after a planned takedown in a nightclub goes violently awry, Livia discovers that she's not the only one hunting Sorm. Former marine sniper Dox has a score to settle, too, and working together is the only way to take Sorm out.
Livia and Dox couldn't be less alike. But they share a single-minded creed: the law has to serve justice. And if it doesn't, justice has to be served another way.
What they don't know is that in threatening Sorm, they're also threatening a far-reaching conspiracy - one involving the highest levels of America's own intelligence apparatus. It turns out that killing Sorm just might be the easy part. The real challenge will be payback from his protectors.

Dox and Livia - does it get any better than this?

I loved the first book in the Livia Lone series, but this second book is even better.
Chapter one starts with Livia putting an agent from homeland security down on a mat while sparring. He then tries to recruit her to work on a human sex trafficking case.
Chapter two brings Dox (from John Rain series). He gets hired to kill a man he's told is a trafficker. He realizes the man is not and and Dox refuses. When he's ambushed later he kills his three attackers and then the man who tried to hire him.
Dox and Livia accidentally end up meeting during another ambush and help each other get out of it. They end up teaming up together, and what a great team they make - in more ways than one! Livia has her hang ups from being trafficked as a child and Dox is such a sweetheart when it comes to the ladies...
This is such an exciting story, there is a dangerous situation around every corner. I started it and refused to talk to anyone until it was finished!!
Barry Eisler narrates his own books flawlessly. I really enjoy the sound of his voice.

In The Night Trade, Book 2 in the Livia Lone series, two of Barry Eisler's most compelling characters meet and join in a battle against sex traffickers in Thailand. For policewoman Livia Lone killing Rithisak Sorm and his employees is deeply personal because he is the man who sent her sister and her to the US in a shipping container sixteen years ago. For former US Marine sniper Dox it is less personal, but Soam's second in command killed a friend of his.

Dox, a colorful and loud Texan with a heart of gold, appears in several of Eisler's John Rain novels as a friend of Rain who occasionally works with him. Four years ago Eisler released a ninety minute short story about Dox titled The Khmer Kill. Ironically Soam's name appears tangentially in The Khmner Kill. (I just realized that I have not reviewed that short story, so I'll do so in a few minutes.)

I've listened to all of Barry Eisler's novels and short stories and am a big fan of his writing. In my opinion The Night Trade is the best Eisler novel (he has not written any that deserve less than 5 stars). Four years ago Eisler re-released all of his audio novels with Eisler himself narrating and he has continued to narrate all of his books since. Barry Eisler is a superb narrator.

All of Barry Eisler's novels and short stories are available to Kindle Unlimited members for $1.99 or less each. All can be purchased by others through the Amazon website for less than the cost of an Audible credit. Eisler was among the first established authors to move to self publishing bringing the cost to consumers of his ebooks and audio books down drastically.

Revenge is sweet

A great story. Action and excitement from the first page . This and the first book in this series are two books which I haven’t been able to leave for a long time. Love the main bad-lass ass character .

The Night Trade

Congratulations again to the author for his narration. These books approach a dark subject in such a way that you are captivated, and totally rooting for the main character the entire time. This is the second book by this author that I have listened to, and I look forward to the next in this series.
