Publisher's summary

A Philadelphia narcotics cop is shot dead in his home. A bar owner's wife and partner are gunned down during an attempted robbery. And in a beautiful mansion, a young woman dies of a heroin overdose. At first the crimes seem unconnected. But these four deaths are about to trigger a massive convergence of corruption, cops, and the mob that could tear the Philadelphia Police Department apart from the inside out. All the way to the top...

Worst Narrator performance of all time

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Dump narrator Dick Hill and bring back Michael Russotto

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrator Hill attempts to put on a one man "old time radio" play by using incredibly annoying vocal gimmicks. The gimmicks were so distracting I was unable to get beyond the first chapter.

Any additional comments?

as much as I enjoy Griffin's "Badge of Honor" books, I had to stop listening to Murders after one chapter due to the narrator Dick Hill. Hill's narration style is so annoying I plan to return the book for a refund. I will not purchase additional books if he is the narrator.

Drags On...and on...and on

I seem to be enjoying the Badge of Honor series, but Griffin has really produced some dragging plots here. This was a long book that could have been made shorter, but for the author's writing syle--there are many repeats and summaries along with characters reading written summaries--one described a room and it's content in very much detail. I'm not sure why? There are many characters, revolving around each other and sometimes they get lost in the reader's mind. As always, the book doesn't climax, it just ends, leaving the reader to wonder who dunnit? I should give up on this series and go on to something I enjoy, but I'l try book #7.

Good listen.

The only problem with WEB Griffin as audio book is how much he repeats himself during the book. otherwise, I really enjoyed it

Too many named characters, way too many

Chapter, after chapter, after chapter, after chapter of naming and giving the title of irrelevant, fictional characters. I couldn't take it any longer! So much gobbledygook, so little substance.

Followup:

After months of being removed from listening to this book, I returned to it, only to be afronted again by a continuing barrage of minutiae that adds nothing to the story. Basically, I think it's a good story, but the listener's attention is constantly being drawn away. It's like watching something on TV that is relentlessly interrupted by commercials.

Overalll good as usual, Dick Hill Rocks

My only complaint was that there were way too many character developing sidelines where we had to learn all about character that had little or no later significance in the book. This got a little old and its not characteristic of this author. Narrator, Dick Hill, could read the ingredients in a box of cereal and leave me wanting more.

Not up to the usual work!

There was too much reading of forms and endlessly dull information. The story was good but the filler almost meant not finishing the book. Dick Hill did his usual poor narrative.

Repeats

While this is tough to give a negative review, there are so many storyline repeats from all the previous books that the book would be 100 pages shorter without them. not sure I want to continue the series.

Entertaining.

I'm not a fan of Dick Hill, so I was dreading this. He still annoys me, but his reading wasn't as bad as I had braced for.

Entertaining story in the ongoing saga of Matt Payne and his adventures as a young cop. All the typical Griffin trademarks are present. If you've followed the story starting with Men in Blue, you won't be disappointed.
