Publisher's summary

A killer stole her voice. Now she's ready to take it back. Don't miss the chilling Shades of Death series from USA Today best-selling author Debra Webb.

Joanna Guthrie was free. She had been for 18 years - or so she needed everyone to believe. What really happened during the longest 14 days of her life, when she and two other women were held captive by the worst kind of killer, wasn't something she could talk about. Not after what she'd had to do to survive.

But when more women go missing in an eerily similar manner, Jo knows her prolonged silence will only seal their fates. She's finally ready to talk; she just needs someone to listen. FBI special agent Tony LeDoux can't deny he finds Jo compelling - he's just not sure he believes her story. But with the clock ticking, Jo will do anything to convince him, even if it means unearthing long-buried secrets that will land them squarely in the crosshairs of the killer....

Great Story !

When I seen Shannon McManus was narrating I didn't hesitate to use a credit . She is one of my favorites. The story pulled me in at the first , kind of lagged a little in the middle but since it was Shannon even the lag was pleasant.

Great story!

I really enjoyed this story! This is my first Debra Webb book, and I already have 2 more in the wings ready to go. The character development was well done, and the narration was excellent!

Well done

Previous to reading this book I have read others written by Debra Webb and have enjoyed them. In this story the main characters were fairly well developed especially Joanne. From my perspective this story shows the affects of trauma on people, and how each individual reacts differently. The plot was believable although I am sure some of the law enforcement processes were not always exact to real life.

Personally I don’t get as hung up on that since I think writers do need to change some of the processes to fit into the story. I enjoyed the narration from Shannon doing well with the different voices. Good read!

Over use of swearing

I do not mind a little use of profanity but the excessive use of the Lords name as a swear word was offensive.

Another basement torture chamber

I had to read this for a book club and I did not enjoy it at all. It's another story of women being abducted, held captive, and tortured. This trend is getting so boring. Why do so many writers concoct these scenarios? I think it's lazy.
The plot was full of holes. The investigation was unrealistic. The crime had too many players. The motive made no sense.
The narrator was good.
