Editorial Reviews

"I don't know how he does it, but Jack Du Brul just gets better with every book. In The Lightning Stones, his hero Philip Mercer really comes into his own. This is the most un-put-downable thriller I’ve read in ages.” (Lincoln Child, number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Forgotten Room)

Publisher's Summary

An exciting new adventure - introducing number-one New York Times best-selling coauthor Jack Du Brul and his erudite geologist with a special taste for international intrigue, Philip Mercer.
Sinking thousands of feet below the surface of the earth in the Leister Deep copper mine in Minnesota, Philip Mercer rides a series of heavy-duty elevators to visit his old friend and mentor, Abraham Jacobs. Jacobs has led a research team to the deepest section of the mine for a groundbreaking study into climate change and cosmic rays. But as Mercer approaches the bottom, he is stunned to hear the unmistakable report of automatic gunfire in the massive underground chambers. He can't stop the inevitable: by the time Mercer finds his way to them, his dear friend, and the entire research team, have been efficiently executed. Mercer is left seeking answers...and revenge.
This sets in motion a propulsive thriller intertwined with intrigue, vengeance, and cutting-edge science. Mercer is thrust into an international hunt for the murderers - and the frightening secret of what they were looking for. The Lightning Stones is a smart rocket ride...and a franchise in the making.
Jack Du Brul became a number-one New York Times best-selling author with Clive Cussler, cowriting the Oregon series that has become a fan favorite. Du Brul's own backlist - featuring Philip Mercer - now serves as a launching pad for the reintroduction of Mercer on a much larger level.

Critic Reviews

"Fresh, original, and incredibly ingenious, The Lightning Stone is one of the best thrillers I have read in years. This is wall-to-wall excitement! Nobody writes like Du Brul." (Brad Thor, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Code of Conduct)
"Wow! The Lightning Stones is a labyrinth of science, history, action, and adventure, featuring the wary geologist/spy Philip Mercer. A perfect blend of menace with normality." (Steve Berry, number-one internationally best-selling author of The Patriot Threat)

May very well be the BEST ACTION BOOK of the YEAR!

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Actually I purchased this book because of Scott Brick. He is one of my two absolute favorite narrators. I have never heard of Jack DuBrul and bought this solely based on the narrator. Glad I did! Thanks Scott and Thank You Jack DuBrul for some Excellent writing.

Any additional comments?

As I said I have never heard if Jack DuBrul but the synopsis given sounded like it could be interesting. WOW! Was this ever. The story starts off with Amelia Earhart being given a box containing crystals and asked to deliver since she was making a flight and this would be the most expedient way to get them to their destination. Only problem is these crystals give off a magnetic charge that interfere with her navigational equipment. Now you know what happened to her. Mix into this a billionaire who is going bankrupt who somehow finds out about the crystals and being the owner of a green energy company, when people have decided going green is not as urgent as they thought it was, a beautiful young female victim (?), a mad scientist who has figured out how to artificially change the climate using these same crystals and casualties are not an issue.
Now our hero TADA Philip Mercer goes to see his friend/mentor, geologist college professor who has discovered a partial secret and just as Mercer arrives his friend is murdered... And the chase is on.
Well written, coherent, EXCELLENT and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

So Glad to Have Mercer Back!

What did you love best about The Lightning Stones?

I missed Mercer while Jack du Brul was off working with Clive Cussler. I hope that we get more ... This is an extremely fast-paced intense book with lots of subplots that takes you all over the country and the world, and brings back beloved Harry and Drag and some other favorite secondary characters as well. There was one place in the book that went beyond debate on environmental issues and devolved into preaching, but that part was short. If this had been a movie, the producers would have complained about the cost of all the special effects needed to repeatedly save Mercer. Ingenious solutions though to the dangerous challenges Mercer faces - you'll like them!

very intriguing page turner

I simply couldn't put it down. Scott Brick was great and brought the characters to life with his portrayal of their many accents. Looking over Du Brul's many stories now...ready for another adventure.
