Publisher's Summary

In 1970, one of Mississippi’s more colorful weekly newspapers, The Ford County Times, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by a 23 year-old college dropout, named Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim, until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family.
Willie Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper. The murderer, Danny Padgitt, was tried before a packed courthouse in Clanton, Mississippi. The trial came to a startling and dramatic end when the defendant threatened revenge against the jurors if they convicted him. Nevertheless, they found him guilty, and he was sentenced to life in prison.
But in Mississippi in 1970, "life" didn’t necessarily mean "life", and nine years later Danny Padgitt managed to get himself paroled. He returned to Ford County, and the retribution began.

"Wholly engrossing - Grisham's story-telling knack has not deserted him; and the hint that something more serious is at stake than the solution of a crime gives the narrative an extra depth" (Evening Standard)

5stars all the way

Grisham is a terrific storyteller. Story offers amazing insight to a world of yesterday's struggles. Very useful time spent listening to the last Juror.

Thrilling and filled with suspense

The book was really interesting, filled with suspense and very thrilling. However the last 3 hours just seemed to drag.

I really liked the narrator's voice. His voice easily slipped into one character from another. I am guessing Baggy is a white man, however from the voice when playing him, he sounded like a black man.

not a patch on Grisham's other books....

Unfortunately found this story uninteresting. Which, I'm surprised at, considering I have really liked every other story he has written...
