What did you like most about The Kill?
Like the other three books in the series following DC Maeve Kerrigan, I love the way in which we get to know the character so well. There is a perfect balance of crime, investigation and the issues and struggles of Maeve and the supporting characters.
What other book might you compare The Kill to, and why?
The others in the series. By book four, many of the characters feel like friends and family. I recommend reading the books in order as there are threads running through them.
Which character – as performed by Caroline Lennon – was your favourite?
Caroline narrates all of the characters perfectly.
Any additional comments?
I love this series of books. The characters are really well drawn and the crimes are interesting, with the occasional genuinely suprising twist. I must wait now until June for the next one to be published. I miss Maeve and Derwent already!

I felt the narrative by Caroline Lennon.was fabulous and really aids the story.
This is the fifth book in the DC Maeve Kerrigan and her boss DI Josh Derwent, with whom she enjoys a love/hate relationship. I thought the story was more complex than previous books. I found this really positive as it held my interest with the different murders and how and if they were linked.
It is so nice to catch up with the characters and how they have changed. This could be read as a standalone book but think that some of the understanding of the characters and events may be lost.
I think the relationship between Maeve and Josh has moved on and matured. Trust has come and I think he has softened a bit towards Maeve with her equally confiding more in him. They are ultimately working as a team with respect for each other.
Maeve remains a down to earth strong person with a sense of humour and a positive work ethic.
Rob is seen in a different light in a more ‘warts and all’ way. I didn’t particularly care for him much or feel any interest in his character or his actions. I feel he is there just as a love interest for Maeve with no other purpose. Maeve suddenly confiding in her mother is quite strange as in previous books she would run a mile from her.
There were excellent twists to this and I so did not guess where it was going when all was revealed.
I felt the Godley sub plot was somewhat unbelievable and unreal in the sense of the ultimate solution that was reached with Derwent’s input.
Finally I would highly recommend this novel and feel that the reintroduction of Kerrigans old nemesis may make interesting reading for the future.
