Great Book - Hard Content

This book has some very hard to hear subject matter and I must say some of it was a bit too over the top. For me, the girls having the caring families that they did but then coming home with a multitude of some pretty serious injuries just doesn't jive for me. However, that being said I can see where predatory and self righteous thugs could and would inflict such pains. For me the writing and story line were enough to keep me constantly engrossed, enough so that I've now gone and gotten her other book that Audible has to offer and I'm just as excited to listen to it - hoping it keeps my interest just as much as this one did. I can't help but be sad for one of the characters in this book - you'll know who by the end. Highly recommended if you can handle the context.

I couldn't quit listening.

The plot, language and narration were fantastic! With only one (understandably) one-dimensional character, I was intrigued by the protagonists' personalities, lives and plights. With one exception, I was unable to piece together exactly what happened in the past to make Serena and Poppy "The Ice Cream Girls".

At the risk of being repetitive, I enjoyed this book immensely, and will enjoy listening to it again. Kudos to the author and narrators.

Great but disturbing read

This is a good story that will give insight of what it's like to be manipulated by a child predator.

Eh

I'm getting tired of these dull bestselling "suspense" stories in which the conclusion rests on some utterly random event or happenstance rather a well-built plot and character development. The narration was uneven, the voice(s) she chose for one main character were so whiny and self-pitying that it was hardly bearable. On the plus side, that did make it plausible that she was delusional, giving the book a bit of interest it actually lacked as written.

A little slow

Would you try another book from Dorothy Koomson and/or the narrators?

Maybe

What do you think your next listen will be?

The Competitor

What three words best describe the narrators’s voice?

Soft, alive, quiet

Did The Ice Cream Girls inspire you to do anything?

Unfortunately no

Any additional comments?

The book was very slow paced and I was under the impression it would have spent more time on the trial as opposed to the girls' lives after.

Good Book Club Read

Everyone in our book club loved this book. It wasn't my favorite book but it was still a great read. The story line was new and relevant. Would recommend.
