Publisher's summary

"A fantastic thriller - dead-on domestic noir, full of tension and surprises. I loved it." (Lee Child, number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Midnight Line)

She may not know exactly who is in her house. But she knows why they are there. Be careful who you let in....

A house swap becomes the eerie backdrop to a crumbling marriage, a long-buried affair, and the fatal consequences that unfold.

When Caroline and Francis receive an offer to house swap - from their city apartment to a house in a leafy, upscale London suburb - they jump at the chance for a week away from home, their son, and the tensions that have pushed their marriage to the brink.

As the couple settles in, the old problems that permeate their marriage - his unhealthy behaviors, her indiscretions - start bubbling to the surface. But while they attempt to mend their relationship, their neighbor, an intense young woman, is showing a little too much interest in their activities.

Meanwhile, Caroline slowly begins to uncover some signs of life in the stark house - signs of her life. The flowers in the bathroom or the music might seem innocent to anyone else - but to her they are clues. It seems the person they have swapped with is someone who knows her, someone who knows the secrets she's desperate to forget....

Be careful who you let in....

Captivated

I was captivated by this book. A real page turner. The author does a good job of making the characters both likeable and unlikeable simultaneously.

well written, captivating story

grabbed me right away. the one whispery voice was off putting at first, but once it took form it was okay. the story was intense and unfolded deliciously. by the last chapters I couldn't put it down!! I had to know the truth!

Suspenseful from beginning to end

Great book. Chilling. The beauty lies in the turn of the phrase. I have only written 1 or 2 reviews in the past 10 years, but I enjoyed this book so much that I had to write a review.

Should be renamed "My Affair"

This was a decent book, but I regret buying it. I was hoping for something more shocking, with thrill and suspense; and I thought that's what I was purchasing. This book is really just about a woman's affair and a mistake she made with terrible consequences. There's really no villain or evil in this story. All this book did for me was make me a little sad for everyone in it. When I wasn't sad I was waiting for Caroline to shut up about her ex lover and start getting almost murdered or something. Again, not a bad book but more of a romance/drama with a dash of mystery.
Holy Hell though, 10/10 on that voice acting! By far the creepiest part of the book.

it was pretty good but the whispering Narration

I gave this 4 stars because it was good
as always there will be no spoilers in my reviews
the sample doesn't give you the whispering Narration that is throughout the book. I didn't like it at all. it was disruptive, creepy at times, and almost too low to hear at times,. however I understand why it was done this way but wish there had been another way. the rest of the Narration was pretty good. overall this was an interesting twist as oppose to the same old story line from any other authors. I would read another by this author just to see. 😀

Cautionary tail about an office romance… or is it?

I’ve read enough of these types of books to know that what’s it’s really about is not what you think it’s about at first. There is always an unpredictable twist and that’s part of what I enjoy – trying to figure out what that will be.

This particular plot twist sort of derailed the intrigue and pace for me, but overall I was consistently eager to know what would happen next.

audio sound

The audio of the male character was so creepy with his whispering every word I couldn't stand it after the 9th chapter!

What A Gotcha!

Really good read. Characters were well developed. Scenes were vivid. A rollercoaster of a ride. Never saw it coming.
