Publisher's summary

The Havana Room is the tale of a man who falls from the heights of power and wealth in New York, and finds himself in a dangerous and potentially lethal state of affairs.

Bill Wyeth is a successful real estate attorney in his late thirties with a wife and son, who, by the merest chance, loses everything: family, job, status. Unmoored and alone, Wyeth drifts toward the city's darker corners. Restoration seems unlikely, redemption impossible. Wyeth finds refuge in an old-time Manhattan steakhouse and is intrigued by the manager, Alison Sparks, who is sexy, complicated, and independent in all ways. She also controls access to the restaurant's private bar. This is the Havana Room, and what goes on in there, he's told, is secret.

In that room he may find the key to his redemption, if it doesn't kill him first.

Critic reviews

"Harrison's status as the noir poet of New York crime fiction will surely be enhanced by his latest thriller...[His] storytelling hums and his prose shimmers all the way through this fascinating adventure." (Publishers Weekly)
"Another intelligent thiller...Plenty to like in Harrison's specialty mix of immensely engaging characters in immensely extreme situations." (Kirkus)
"The Havana Room demonstrates that Colin Harrison is a wonderful storyteller....Henry Levya captures Wyeth's emotions beautifully....Levya is especially effective wiht the various ethnic voices that populate the book." (AudioFile)
"A consistently entertaining story...[Harrison] is a master of mood and atmosphere." (The New York Times)

don't miss this one

This is a wonderful book! The characters are so rich and real, and the story is unexpected and full of unknown danger and dread. The lead character is genuinely likeable, but also thoroughly human and not afraid to admit it. As the narrator he doesn't hide his faults, but still comes across as a wise observer of human nature. Probably the best book I've read in the last year.

Great Book

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, with interesting characters and many twists in the plot. This is my first book by the author so I shall look for others to enjoy.

nope

This book is a dumb, stupid, total waste of time. The narrator's depiction of African American and Chinese American characters came across as quite racist.
