Publisher's summary

When Angela was young, before she came to realize she had a rare ability, she was a rather ordinary girl. At least, that was what everyone said. But Angela is anything but ordinary. The daughter of a meth addict, she is convinced she was born a freak. Haunted by an abusive childhood, she was forced to become a woman far too soon. And in the process, she became more.

Angela juggles multiple jobs to live a secluded life in a cabin in the mountains. But she also lives a secret life, right under everyone's noses. Because her family's bloodline carries the ability to recognize killers, she adopts a solitary, violent existence in service of her own, personal mission in life. When Angela unexpectedly finds herself the prey of a group of international terrorists, she is the only one who knows the truth of what they are about to do. She might look like an unlikely hero. She might also be our only hope.

Think Deaths Mistress

Think Deaths Mistress and the Mother Confessor had a love child in the Modern day. Loved this book the way I loved Wizards first rule the first time I read it 20 years ago. Angela is a character that needs many more books written about her. Goodkind developed her in a way that made her believably realistic that did not go need to go full fantasy or full comic book. It’s an amazingly well written and should one day get a movie franchise build around Angela. She is better character than the girl with the dragon tattoo. Amazing work Terry! I have read all your books and Faith of the Fallen was your masterpiece. Angela is your new work greatest work! Please continue to build this series!!

Real life or fantasy?!

This book was so awesome! It may be fantasy, but I certainly could see the possibility of something like this happening! Completely different than what Terry Goodkind has previously written, but still a great novel! Suspenseful and intriguing! Another great masterpiece! It left me wanting more!

This is fantasy

Info wars level gore porn with a side of “not all men” misogyny. Dude you can stop describing her legs already. The female lead is awesome, but completely beyond reality in how she’s mentally dealt with adversity. Also the detailed description of rape are unnecessary after like the third or fourth time it does nothing for the story.

It’s so full to the brim of insane conspiracy theories that I spent the first half of the book wondering if it was satire, and the second half just dedicated to listen to it as a fantasy. The foundations for world building this book are America’s modern day paranoid delusions.

dark...

excellent story but I've always wondered how an author can be so detailed about rape without being broken inside themselves. this was tough to get thru but overall...the story was good. hope to see more development of the main character. she has the potential to be a real badass

Fantastic edge of your seat thriller

once again Terry has pulled us into a new adventure that we can't get enough of and because it is in our world you expect to turn on the news and see something that has leaked to the press.

It's a bit much. Okay, it's a LOT much.

First, the good. The narrator does a great job. Also, it is well written for what it is and I liked the overall concept and even some of the avenging type of stuff, even if it's violent. I'm not super squeamish in general.

Then there's the bad...

This book is unrelenting at parts with the r*pe and degradation.
SLIGHT SPOILERS.
Once was bad, especially because she's a child when it happens, but I let it slide. Then over. and over. She is repeatedly r*ped through her early teen years (before she can even drive). Then she's an adult and it's like, okay. Now she's a badass that hunts serial killers. Then, oh wait, what's that? Gang r*pe. At that point I shut it off. There's only so much before it's just exhausting and unnecessary.
END OF SLIGHT SPOILERS.
If you have a strong stomach for pretty brutal r*pe, then maybe this book is for you. Otherwise, I'd skip it.
