Publisher's summary

From New York Times best seller Alessandra Torre....

I have three months to write the last book of my life. Three months to confess the details of that day, and how it changed everything for me.

My name is Helena Ross. I've written 15 romance novels, 10 of which have become international best sellers. But this one isn't a romance, no happily ever after in place. This novel holds only the truth, which I have run away from for four years. The truth, which I have hidden from the police, from my loved ones, from the world.

This final book?

It's my confession.

Ugly cry good

This audio ripped my heart out and left it on the floor. I’ve never listened to an audio that had me so emotional. This Audio kept me engaged from beginning to end. The way the author navigated the story while hinting, twisted, and eventually pulling out a trump card I would have never seen coming was beautiful, poetic, and heartbreaking. The narrator did such a fabulous job of giving all the characters so much personality from fragile and broken, to strong and supportive. Bravo. A five star Audio all the way around.

Meh

Overall, the book was fine. I didn’t feel that the “plot twist” was really impactful, because I don’t feel that there was any hint dropping leading up to that point that made me want to reread it and say “oh, I could’ve guessed it from that!” I think it left a lot to be desired. And the ending was not very satisfying. Also, the narration of this audiobook is really strange. The quality of the audio is pretty poor, spliced together in a lot of places, and the way the book was read often made it confusing especially at first.

This is not a love story.

Even though it will break your heart. I have read a lot of psychological based books which received a lot of attention and were nowhere nearly as well written as this one. The author breathed life into each character. The plot does not disappoint as so many in this genre do. The ending was excellent even though, to a point, we know what’s coming. I was surprised by this book in so many ways.

Difficult words

This was a great book. The main character was really hard to like. I admired everyone who had to work with her. The way the story unfolds is brilliant.

Gripping Story!!

Loved the story- performance was weak. There were times I could not tell what character was actually being represented. Great story- poor delivery

Wish I had read this one

Well written, fascinating story. Completely marred for me by poor editing. Probably the worst of any audio book I've ever listened to. It's distracting when the rhythm of the story is suddenly assaulted by a single word dropped in with a completely different pitch and tone, or a sentence patched together so tightly that two of the words run into each other. And although the annoying, slightly whiny, almost monotone millennial voice was in keeping with the main character, it was incredibly annoying. I have turned off books with fewer problems than this one, so I guess that speaks to the quality of the writing and the story. Still, I wish I had bought the book instead of the audio.

A good well told story.

Entertaining and well written, this book provided with one hand and stole with the other. The story flowed naturally and methodically with facts and emotions; it had some poetry in the words that mathematically described how those characters were able to do what they did and how one thing led to another.

It shed a light on our society's shadows, without bringing brightness to our world. Oddly, that was good.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because, with all its originality, it still tells a story about a petite girl that dislikes eating and the male has to care and provide. There are reasons for that, but I'm a bit tired of it. It's my personal pet peeve, but it's also my rating. Nevertheless, the woman here, like most, is fragile and strong - and the author does a great job flourishing both spectrums.

Performance wise, it was great in itself, a bit dry compared to other audiobooks. But here, that dryness, however unpleasant to listen to, was intentional and justified.

Mediocre story, awful narrators

The narrator for Helena was horrible to the point she really detracted from the story. The story itself was ok but not worthy of the 4.5star rating on GoodReads. The main character was a quirky, cold, selfish and socially inept individual. The novel never really explained why or how she became that way. The book could have used additional editing. This felt like a rough draft. Can’t recommend.

Powerful and well written

Well crafted story, with interesting characters and enough intrigue to keep me anxious for the next chapter. The narration was...odd, but I eventually got used to it.
