This book has been on my to-read list for a while. Ever since finishing another book from Lisa (Broken Chain) I knew I wanted to read this book. I enjoyed Broken Chain so much, I would listen to it if Crossroads Press releases it on audio (crosses fingers).
So, I work in the technology field. I understand the meaning of uptime and carrying (n) 9’s. We have contracts that make up maintain a certain amount of uptime. 5 minutes of downtime per year is insane. Truly insane. And I 100% believe that companies (especially financial companies like the one in the book) have contracts like this. Knowing what that means and what some of these penalties look like in real life made this book feel even more real to me.
The mixing of home-life (what little there was) and work life set this book aside a little. I’ve read, what I call “Business Thrillers” before and loved them — but they don’t focus a lot on the home life. von Biela really tried to mix the two and show what working and living like this was like for both the husband and the wife. I commend her for doing so.
The technothriller part of this was straight out of my favorite author's playbook. I’ve even read a book similar to the premise in here (maybe a little further along). That made it even better for me. It was something similar but done in a totally different way. I love when a book can do that.
If you’re a technothriller fan (think Douglas E. Richards and Michael Crichton) and business-type thrillers (Eliot Peper and Joseph Finder) then this book is definitely for you. Also, if you’re a fan of just a darn good story – check this book out.
I was voluntarily provided with a copy of this book. It has not affected my review in any way.
