Publisher's summary

Former SAS soldier Jeff Bradley thought he had left warzones behind when he inherited a vineyard in rural New Zealand. But now his vineyard manager, Arben Shala, has gone missing in his native Kosovo. An enigmatic message tells Jeff that his friend is in grave danger.

Determined to find Arben and bring him home, Jeff travels to Kosovo and finds a lawless state in the grip of criminal gangs. Corrupt officials obscure every lead. With the help of USAID director Morgan Delaney, Jeff delves into the province's seedy underworld and uncovers a conspiracy of terrifying scale. A web of dark connections links the captors with a terrorist bombing campaign across Europe, and now it is no longer just Arben whose survival is at stake.

Double-crossed by allies, watched at every turn, can Jeff get to the heart of the conflict before the warlords get to him?

Interesting Setting, But Unable to Connect

I had high hopes for this story based in Kosovo, a lawless and corrupt country, where former SAS soldier Jeff Bradley had followed his friend and vineyard manager, Arben Shala, into the country. Arben, a native of Kosovo, but now a citizen of New Zealand, as is Jeff Bradley, had traveled back to Kosovo to claim his property, which had been stolen from him. Captured trying to cross the border into Macedonia, under trumped up charges, Arben was taken into custody. Just before going to jail, he managed to get a message to Jeff Bradley back in New Zealand. The bones of the story are good, and I kept waiting for the suspense to ramp up . . . for the empathy to deepen for the main character. Something was just off. It was if the author put forth the story in an offhand, nonchalant way. I never felt like I was there. Can’t continue the series.

Detailed But Fast Paced

Not your usual "techno thriller". It will lead you to places not found in the usual/expected direction, but the different constructs are new & refreshing. The characters read as real & relatable. You read the synopsis, learn our hero is ex-SAS which bends the mind toward pre-conceived notions. BAM! Every time, another perception shattered in the most pke
pleasing way.
