Total misery

Sit right back and suffer through the monotonous ride of misery that is Dean Koontz’s “The Door To December”. I am a huge Dean Koontz fan and have even liked some of his less well received books in the past, but this one is a complete and total dog. The premise of the novel had potential, but the quality of the writing sucked (for lack of a better word) and was overly melodramatic. With the help of a skilled writer, it could be made into a daytime soap opera. To add insult to injury, the book was read by one of the worst readers that I have heard in the industry. “The Door To December” is a door to disappointment and misery. My advice is that you pass on this one. Sorry Dean- it was that bad!

Doesn't seem like Koontz

Pretty disappointing - it lacks the wit and intimacy of the other Koontz novels I've read. Also some uncharacteristic mistakes, like referring to the "Waco family in Texas". Waco was the town, not the family. I also associate the narrator with more run-of-the mill mysteries, and that may have clouded my impression.

Troubling

As usual, this thing scared the willies out of me and my wife. It was exciting and troubling that there may be people that do such things. We haven't finished it yet, but I hope the guy gets his "come up ins"

Typical Koontz

This is a typical Koontz book, weird but interesting enough to keep listening to the end.

Koontz Never Disappoints

I am constantly amazed at how Koontz can take a really novel and facially ridiculous story line (shapeless monsters that crush people) and have you believing it by the time you're done with the book. But more important than the eventual winning over and suspension of disbelief is the themes he explores and the way in which it is always the triumph of the human spirit that wins out in the end of his books. This novel is one of his best, and was recommended by Audible based on past Koontz books. I am very glad I listened. The narrator is not as good as the narrator for the Odd Thomas novels, but still was very good.

Classic Koontz

A good one and at times I did not want to stop listening in order to do something else I had to do.

Excellent reading by Mr. Guidall of a story that rocks the soul! Who knows what happens in those unknown places by those unknown scientists...in the real world!

Enjoyable despite predictability

I found this book to be entertaining despite the fact that I figured out "whodunnit" very early on. The mystery of why and how kept me going. And as always, Koontz wrote characters who drew me in. While not the best sample of his work, it was nevertheless enjoyable.
