Publisher's Summary

125 Gower Street, 1882: Sidney Grice was once London's premier personal detective. But since his last case led an innocent man to the gallows, business has been light. Listless and depressed, Grice has not even gathered the strength to re-insert his glass eye.
Then an eccentric member of a Final Death Society has the temerity to die on his study floor. Finally Sidney and March have an investigation, one that will draw them to an eerie house in Kew, and the mysterious Baroness Foskett....

A selection of ghastly endings and sly sniggers

I am not normally a lover of 'the second book' but I wanted to give this a chance as there were so many loose ends left after the first novel. This story maintains the humour of the first book and plays out a very gruesome but satisfying murder mystery. There are some laugh out very loud moments ( particularly in relation to Sidney's outrageous mother) and some truly horrific touches which make this an overall thoroughly entertaining listen. The loose ends are developed and at the end I retained my commitment to carry on with this excellent series. Emma Gregory is a talented reader who conveys the humour and over the top atmosphere to perfection. This is a book that is not be be taken seriously and this makes it all the more enjoyable.

Unusual combination of gruesome and funny

Another great story from this remarkably talented author. The plot twists and turns but always keeps you hooked with its marvellous blend of humour and gruesome murder. I dare not say more for fear of giving something away. As before it is read with perfect style by Emma Gregory. If you enjoyed George MacDonald Fraser's Flashman this is a must have.
