Mary Roberts Rinehart was one of the Grand Dames of the golden age of cozy mysteries. She is the only American member of that club. I would have rated this as a 3, judged against modern standards. I would rate it as a 5 given its influence in the field. So I marked it 4.

Generally unlikable characters

Generally unlikable characters not helped by poor narration; however, loved the time period and setting.
