Publisher's summary

The new thriller from number one New York Times best-selling author Michael Connelly follows Detective Harry Bosch and his new partner as they investigate a recent murder where the trigger was pulled nine years earlier.

In the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit, not many murder victims die almost a decade after the crime. So when a man succumbs to complications from being shot by a stray bullet nine years earlier, Bosch catches a case in which the body is still fresh, but all other evidence is virtually nonexistent.

Now Bosch and rookie Detective Lucia Soto, are tasked with solving what turns out to be a highly charged, politically sensitive case. Beginning with the bullet that's been lodged for years in the victim's spine, they must pull new leads from years-old information, which soon reveal that this shooting may have been anything but random.

In this gripping new novel, Michael Connelly shows once again why Harry Bosch is "one of the greats of crime fiction" (New York Daily News).

Critic reviews

"This is the finest crime series written by an American... There are few fictional characters we know so well; Harry is an old friend now." (Patrick Anderson, Washington Post)

"Bosch has become one of the most popular and enduring figures in American crime fiction." (Kevin Nance, Chicago Tribune)

"The Black Echo introduced Connelly as the heir apparent to Raymond Chandler and also helped usher in a new approach to the police procedural. Now, twenty years later, Connelly is still writing about Harry Bosch, continuing to discover new layers to this now iconic character with increasingly complex and believable plots...Connelly makes him a fresh and original character each outing." (Oline H. Cogdill, Miami Herald)

Good

Liked the book. Not one of Connelly's best, but enjoyable. The narrator did a good job.

Solid story and reading

I’m a big fan of Connelly and Harry Bosch. Bosch is an imperfect and intriguing character. The book is brought to life by Welliver’s reading. This is lighter, not as dark as other Bosch stories. Worth listening to to deepen one’s understanding of Bosch.

Sad

I have never cried at the end of a Bosch book (and I’ve read many if not most) until today. The book was excellent and the ending makes me so sad. No he doesn’t die but his life will be changing.

BOSCH and Soto team up!!

Another excellent adventure with Harry Bosch and this time with Detective Lucia 'Lucy' Soto!!! Love it!!!!
Titus Welliver is BOSCH!!!
The only that I didn't like was parts of the AUDIBLE book was removed or edited out and sometimes even changed compared to the book! Very disappointed in subtraction of a lot of details! Rp

5 Stars!

Welliver is as believable as a narrator as he is at acting as Harry on Bosch.

I love the way the two crimes wind up entangled. It is the fateful twist that propels this story of power, greed, and money to another notch for Harry, although he manages to wind up out of step with the brass, again.

Not the Best

The narrator of this book is VERY MONOTONE. And where is Chu? Suddenly Bosch is partnered up with some young girl? And why is Bosch such a dick to her for doing things he does and has done himself?? Ok story, unfortunately it's necessary to read/listen to as the series is continuous.

Mesmerizing!

I have listened to a few of Michael Connelly's novels & this is the first one narrated by Titus Welliver, who plays Bosch in the Amazon series I have heard. He does a fantastic job of telling the story! I can see the story better hearing Bosch's voice.
