Publisher's summary

Bainbridge Island is west of Seattle across the Puget Sound. The Island is approximately the same size as Manhattan, but there are just over 20,000 people who live there. Bainbridge Island is filled with soaring forests, plush landscapes, gorgeous views, and expensive waterfront homes. It's the kind of place you go to retire, to vacation, or to really relax and enjoy life. It's not the kind of place you go to die.

But people are....

In this prequel to The Rock Star, Jon Stevens is in his prime, and he is forced to go to Bainbridge Island undercover to investigate the deaths of three couples. The local Sheriff has classified the deaths as suicides, but Stevens thinks they're killings, and with just over 20,000 inhabitants on the Island, Bainbridge has a small town feel, where everybody knows everybody else's business, so Stevens has to investigate without the killer knowing he's there. Which could be next to impossible.

Great short novel

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I do recommend this one. The lugubrious tones of Mike Romano drive along the tree lined coast of Bainbridge Island. The story centers around a lone detective in his quest to find a killer on a small island off the coast of Seattle Washington, near where I believe the author himself lives. After listening to it on my commute to work, an hour each way, I ended up listening to it all when I got home.

Mike Romano has that fun voice that echoes back to the 30's and Rick Soper's detective Stevens follows just enough cliches to let you know what kind of book it's going to be without going overboard.

What did you like best about this story?

It kept moving along at a good pace. The short novel genre leaves no fat on the meat.

Have you listened to any of Mike Romano’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't. But I will now.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me curious about how people hide their valuables. How do the super rich hide their stuff, what do they hide and how would someone get at them? I caught myself saying, "I never thought about that before." No big laughs or tears in this one, just good intrigue.

Any additional comments?

Now I want to visit Washington again. Rent a place for a few days and just read, eat and wander.

It was interesting and had a decent plot

What made the experience of listening to The Bainbridge Killings the most enjoyable?

It was from a local area and the characters were interesting.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Picked up the pace a little bit, the reading was a bit slow.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it took me a little while and it is not a very long story.

Any additional comments?

Overall the book is worth listening to, the plot is interesting and the characters are not flat. There were a couple of things that needed more explaining.

Great fun story

I enjoyed this book as I listened during my morning and afternoon commutes. The main character has depths and I look forward to reading more stories about him.

Slow and steady

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

A little too slow for my liking.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Too much character development before hooking you into a mystery.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, slow.

Did The Bainbridge Killings inspire you to do anything?

Made me want to read a good David Baldacci book.

An Exciting Prequel to "The Rock Star."

"The Bainbridge Killings" was a terrific beginning to what sounds like a great new series. I really liked it and thought it was even somewhat noir-ish. The protagonist, Jon Stevens shows up in Bainbridge to investigate what are first being called suicides but things aren't as they seem. There are other interesting characters that enter in as well such as Holly.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this audiobook was. I wish it had been longer and can't wait to see where Rick Soper takes the story. I think it has a lot of potential.

Mike Romano's narration was great. He made it interesting the way he differentiated the characters voices. He did it tastefully and he made it more involving. I wouldn't change a thing. My feel is this is a great match up with author/narrator and I look forward to more from both.

Inventive Plot

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book because it moved along, kept me interested, and didn't get bogged down in minutiae. Perfect for listening in the car.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Bainbridge Killings?

Interesting, different plot scenario. Never seen or heard a story line like that one before.

Any additional comments?

I would like to listen to other books with the same protagonist. The narrator seemed to talk really slow, then I realized I could speed it up on my Kindle. Perfect at 125%.
