Publisher's summary

When a newspaper report of a medical miracle catches Matt's eye, he and India go in search of Dr. Hale in the hope he is more magical doctor than miracle worker and can lead them to Chronos. But Hale turns out to be an apothecary magician keen to educate the public about magic.

Their disappointment in not finding Chronos is soon forgotten when Hale is murdered, and Matt becomes a suspect. With Matt's nemesis Sheriff Payne influencing the investigating detective, India and Matt know they must find the real killer, or risk his freedom, and ultimately, his life. Time is running out as they hunt for a killer capable of turning medicine into poison with a magic spell, as well as continue the search for Chronos. A search that must end in success before Matt's malfunctioning watch stops altogether.

Get On With It

What made the experience of listening to The Apothecary's Poison the most enjoyable?

In particular, this narrator is one of my favorites on the Audible site. In fact, it's how I came to find this book series in the first place.

Which character – as performed by Marian Hussey – was your favorite?

I have to say that I enjoy her performance of Matt Glass the most. India's voice is non-distinctive and I find her interpretation of "outlaw" voices to be really cartoon-y. But I do enjoy the smooth and confident way she presents Matt's voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

Even though the book isn't officially listed on audible as a "romance" novel, I find myself growing frustrated by the allusions to "love" and feelings on the parts of India and Matt, though there is nothing that furthers those feelings along. At first the angst was enjoyable, but by book three, I feel like I've been watching a teen-drama TV show where the writers are playing games. At this point, something romantic needs to happen or it just will begin to feel silly and boring - this whole "will they / won't they" thing has stopped being exciting.

As far as the plot goes, I don't yet see what this book served aside from the end. There was so much travel and movement in this book that I couldn't always keep up, unless I was listening without doing anything else. Overall, I will rate this book with 4 stars - it's the third of a series so you really must read it, but I hope that the next book will pick up the pace a bit.

Another clif hanger ending ..

What made the experience of listening to The Apothecary's Poison the most enjoyable?

Solid writing, narration is paired well with the character, but the story seemed lacking in depth with regard to furthering the story line; almost as if it were half a book. Then there is the cliff hanger ending and lead into the 4th book, this SUCKS. My recommendation would be to wait until the 4th book comes out and then continue with the series.

disappointed

only bought this 3 to book to hear the resolution of glass and Steele relationship. I found story line of book 2 and this book 3 boring. good characters but I won't read the next book. too slow moving and repetitious like a soap opera.

More of the same

Usually I like ongoing stories, but this series seems to be very predictable. Don't think I'll buy book four.

GOOD CONTINUATION OF SERIES

Enjoyable. Matt and India continues to search for Chronos. Meanwhile Matt was a suspect for the murder of Dr. Hale, a magical doctor. Both Matt and India have to solve the crime before he gets charged for the crime. Lots of action and well narrated by Marion Hussey. I hope book 4 will be published soon.

Eager for the next book!

I am thoroughly enjoying this series. Just the right blend of historical references, mystery, intrigue, suspense, romance, and most importantly ... of magic.
