Greatest portrayal

Clive Merrison and Michael Williams were, in my opinion, the best ever Holmes and Watson. Clive Merrison showed the manic nature of Holmes, and how frustrating he would have been as a housemate, while Michael Williams portrayed a man who was frequently infuriated by his friend's nature, yet still respected and admired him. The cases are of course baffling until eventually Holmes unravels the mystery. All the actors do a superb job of bringing these stories to life

Conan Doyle at his best.

Detective stories don't get much better than these.. Stories to keep coming back to. again and again. Sherlock Holmes still stands tall in this genre.
