Publisher's summary

She will never forgive and forget.

When 18-year-old Teddy loses her parents to a tragedy, she's left alone, and with no memory of the life she once had. Now older, wiser, and tougher than ever before, Teddy has managed to carve out a small place in Austin's criminal underworld, but that world comes with its own brand of trouble. Trouble she's learned to handle with some razor-sharp wit, and the occasional baseball bat.

Desperate to buy the only link to her childhood - her parents' old farm - Teddy jumps at an opportunity that could change her life. A stranger has just walked into her bar and presented her with a chance to get back a little of what she once had, but it may not be as simple as she thinks. This chance of a lifetime may take her down a long, winding road, filled with more trouble than she might be able to handle.

From Mike McCrary, author of Genuinely Dangerous and the Remo Cobb series, comes the first audiobook in a brand-new exciting series. Steady Trouble is filled with nonstop action, humor, a touch of heart, and a fun character, affectionately known as Steady Teddy.

Teddy - foul mouthing sarcastic fun!

This book is full of grit and foul language right from the get go. The protagonist (Teddy) is a young woman who lost her parents when they were murdered in a home invasion (this will be important later) and is currently a bartender in a rough bar where she and the barmaid work at ripping off wannabe johns and skimming. Out of the blue a man comes into the bar and makes her an offer to come with him and no other explanation. Following her refusal he shows up again after packing up her belongings, rescues her from hired killers and tells her he has a private plane thus proving that she is safer with him than she is staying here. She's taken to NYC where she meets a man she had met only once before, 6 months earlier. He's wealthy and wants to leave part of his dirty fortune to her. The catch: the other people in his will (his family) will not be happy about this and will try to kill her. This money could change her life forever or she could wind up dead. The big question is WHO is this man? and why does he want to include her in his will?
The story is not too realistic but it is fast and fun and has plenty of sarcasm.
RECOMMENDED for a quick read when you don't want something too heavy but instead a hair raising, fast paced suspense.
Mandy Kaplan's narration is perfect for this book.

It is all about Teddy!

I purchased Steady Trouble as the result of a review written by Audible Listener Shelley (that is not unusual because her reviews have pointed me to many novels).

Let's start with narrator Mandy Kaplan. He narration is spectacular!

The dialog in Steady Trouble is profane, so skip this one if you object. The novel is extremely violent. Teddy is a woman barely making a living dealing with her somewhat illegal business in Austin Texas. Her weapon of choice is a baseball bat, but she will use whatever is close at hand. A dying man enters her bar offering her a fortune if she will visit him in New York City. The plot of Steady Trouble is very, very creative and the novel is just plain fun. I cannot say more without ruining the plot. Steady Trouble is not great Literature, but it is lots of fun.

WOW!

What a brilliant book. The action kicks off in chapter 1 and doesn't end until the last word - actually, the action carries on way past the last word. Teddy is a kick-ass woman, and I'm totally in love with her, she's divine. One of the best female characters I've read about in many a long time. With Skinny Drake by her side, she's going to conquer the world. The McClusky family are suitably repugnant and easy to loathe. But it isn't just because her enemies are so revolting that you cheer for Steady Teddy. She may have her issues but she's a genuinely good person, and she's so well drawn that I truly believe that I could go and meet her in her bar in Austin, Texas. I loved Remo and Mr McCrary has done it again. Excellently narrated by Mandy Kaplan, I can't wait to read more about Steady Teddy. BTW, the ending, don't worry, no spoilers, but the ending is very much, WTF??? Kudos Mr McCrary - you've got a 5 star, (should be 6), hit on your hands!
