Publisher's summary

All Pyper Rayne - medium and coffee shop owner - wanted was the perfect vintage dress. What she got was a dead shop owner and a sexy ghost who's suddenly everywhere - at her shop, in her car, and even lounging in her bedroom. But he's not just any ghost. He's a witch and able to appear in solid form...sometimes. If only he'd stop disappearing on her.

And Pyper needs his help. When she becomes target numero uno and the prime suspect in the shop owner's death, it appears her ghost holds the key to solving the murder. In between stolen kisses, Pyper will need to get to the bottom of all of his secrets if she wants to stay alive and out of jail...and maybe finally get that date he keeps promising her.

Ghostly Murder Mystery yet Fun!

I'd forgotten how much fun Deanna Chase's books were. This one is a Murder Mystery that involves, ghosts, witches, demon hunters and many more characters. The atmosphere in New Orleans is just the place for this adventure. While there is romance it isn't steamy sex; which in my opinion makes it all the better. It's all about the plot, characters and adventure with a little romance thrown in. So don't expect half the book to be a detailed sex romp...just isn't happening. Instead, look forward to the adventures of Pyper Rayne and her sexy ghostly friend Julius. Wish, like I did, that they find a way to get together.

Ida Mae (another ghost) keeps things hopping in Pyper's bakery by mischievously changing the menu and decorating the sweets in some sexually suggestive ways. Great fun to be had all through this book.

My boyfriend is a ghost

This was a cute, funny story. I did not realize it was spin off from another series. However, i had not problem following the story. I love the characters. The narration was great. I do look forward to more in this series and the one it spin off from. IIt has ghost, witches good and bad, empaths and all kinds of stuff. Murders being done so a someone can extend there life for about 90 years. Pyper and Jade and the ghost Julius and other friends have to work to find he witch who has killed two and looking to make pyper the 3rd victim to compete their ritual. With the bad witch and the police thinking Pyper is the murderer she has to rely on herself and her friends to solve murders. Just when you think you got him/her things can change and go another way.

Cute. Standard fare

Another fun little paranormal. Nothing special, but a nice few hours of story. If you like these it's worth a listen.

Middle of the Road Mystery w/Unexpected Characters

This was my first paranormal book from Deanna and I was entertained, although I wouldn’t say it was my absolute favorite. I did enjoy the characters, even though they were odd to put it mildly. The love interest with a ghost who could turn solid was just downright weird at first. It took a long time to warm up to that aspect. I think the raunchy ghost Ida May was hilarious and broke up the monotony pretty well.

I had several critiques though. When it came to the writing, there were times that scenes would change with a new chapter and a bit of time would have elapsed, or the setting would be completely different. It made the story a bit choppy. The hatred and bigotry against the NOPD (police) was also distracting. And to be honest, it was a bit of a put-off. I can understand writing in a bad cop every once in a while, but this felt more like an outright blanket across the entire force which was hard to stomach. Pyper as a character came across as a prude at times, but strong, confident, and bold at others when it came to men. When she was prudish, it was hard to imagine her as someone who “managed” a strip club at some point of her life. She was also way too trusting and finding the good in everyone for someone who had been trampled on for most of her life. When they wrapped up the mystery with several chapters to go, it was obvious there would be another twist which was easy to expect. Some of the details were a bit too conveniently written in to be a true mystery, but it was an ok read in that aspect.

All in all, I enjoyed the story enough to keep going in the series. I just wish the story had been a bit better written so that I could say I loved it as much as Deanna Chase’s other books.

Love the story but...

I liked the storyline and think it will end up being even better as it develops. I have been spoiled by having listened to some amazing narrators. I did not get into the flow of the book or get as involved as I would have liked. There is much more to narrating well beyond reading well. You need to hear the excitement, the fear, the joy and the anger to be drawn in.

Great Story!

This is the first book in the Pyper Rayne series and it's terrific! The narrator has done a great job bringing the characters and story to life. I'm looking forward to listening to the other books in this series.

I was provided a copy of this audiobook by the author, I have voluntarily submitted my review.

Returned

This might be a good book for YA, but it's an over sexed, idiot for a protagonist.
I could only get through half the book. A book that makes me angry at the idiocy of the main character doesn't make a run read.
The narrator was fine, the story was ok, but writing for leading character was juvenile at best.

Another Winner

I’m never disappointed with books from Deanna Chase nor narrations from Gabra Zackman, and this one is no different. Author always provides plenty of action, suspense and several “surprises and twists” to where you want to keep listening. till you finish.

Love Piper!

I am so glad Piper got her own series. I have always loved her in the Jade series and loved this book. It has the mystery and mystical, as well as the romance and action. I listened to this in one day!
