Publisher's summary

Welcome to Askergan County, where the last murder was committed more than a decade ago.

Tucked away in northeastern Vermont, picturesque Askergan County is the perfect place for a winter vacation - for the lucky few who know about it. Askergan is so peaceful, crime so nonexistent, that they don't even have a full-time police force, just a Sheriff and two deputies who spend most of their time dishing out parking tickets and breaking up the occasional bar fight.

But that was before the storm.

A blizzard suddenly descends on the county, trapping Cody Lawrence and his young family inside their home. At first their only concerns are to stay inside and keep warm. But Cody soon finds out that there is more to fear than just snow and ice. Something has been unleashed by the storm, something ancient, something evil. Something with primal needs.

When the power goes out and they lose cell phone service, Cody realizes that his family's only chance of survival is to team up with the dysfunctional sheriff's department and head out into the snow to face the very thing that so desperately needs their skin.

Welcome to Askergan County, where the last murder was committed yesterday, today, an hour ago, a minute ago.

fun, creepy listen!

I really enjoyed this; original and creepy, though my dogs really didn't care for the insistent summonings of the creature! The narrator did a really good job with all of the characters' voices, but then used a weird, off-putting-to-me, robotic voice for the narration. Didn't stop me from buying the next book though!

Loved this story.

I highly recommend this book. I read in one day and highly enjoyed the humor and terror of it. Didn't care for the audio at times as I prefer no background music and effects. Also didn't care for how he sounded robotic with certain characters although I did get used to it and still enjoyed the book.

I do not understand the rave reviews

Would you try another book from Patrick Logan and/or Michael Pauley?

maybe

Would you be willing to try another book from Patrick Logan? Why or why not?

perhaps with a different narrator

How did the narrator detract from the book?

had an annoying habit of up inflecting at the end of the sentence and a false wavering voice trying to make it more scary. He was trying way to hard to make the book spooky. Came across as false and annoying.

Do you think Skin needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Don't really care... it was OK but hardly terrifying

Fun

It took a bit to get used to the readers voice, but once I did he bought the story alive for me. This book was a fun scare. I am now purchasing the next book and can't wait to dive in!

I have a new favorite Author!

I devoured "Skin". Pun intended. I live in a small Vermont border town so I can relate to the setting, tone, and terror that is enhanced by the weather conditions. I don't like to give away too much so I will only say that if you enjoy a good plot, some chills, some gore thrown in, and enough characters with flaws to make them seem believable. Then you are in for a treat!

Creepy...in a great way!

Where does Skin rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So far, this is one of my favorites. It didn't drag on too much and I love the sound effects of the outdoor storm.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the plot was unique. I work in a sleepy Vermont town, so I could definitely relate to the remote feel of Askergen.

Have you listened to any of Michael Pauley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This one is my first for him. I did find him to be very monotone, but he did have his creepy moments.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself yelling at the character, Alice. She seemed kind of pointless to the story, to be honest.

Any additional comments?

This was a fun story, if you like the haunted woods during a blizzard kind of thing.

Loved it !

Has an older reader and now audio books.. I enjoyed this story very much. I have read or listened to just about every scary story there is.. This one gave me the creeps ,to say the least. I highly recommend this book. The narrator was, outstanding. Five stars, would give more if I could. I am very much looking forward to more of this series.
