Is murder humorous?
Would you listen to Singing the Sadness again? Why?
This was such a good listen I was tempted to listen to it again straight away. The reader was brilliant, funny , sad and poignant as the text required.
What did you like best about this story?
The main character, Joe Sixsmith is the original misunderstood man ...and not just by his Aunt Mirabelle. He underestimates his own ability and is modest to the extreme. He is also funny, usually unintentionally, thoughtful and actually quite astute. He is probably the best detective in fiction whilst at the same time he's not actually very good at his job....or The Times Crossword!
Which character – as performed by Christian Rodska – was your favourite?
Although I have already declared my love of Joe I think Christian Rodska did a brilliant job with Aunt Mirabelle, the mainstay of Joe's life who enjoys haranguing hiim with love.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Towards the end when Joe was once again in the hospital he goes to visit the fire victim.
Any additional comments?
I am very sorry that there will be no more Joe Sixsmith books for as much as I like the other Reginald Hill books these few about Joe Sixsmith are, to my mind, far more enjoyable and Joe is a more human and manageable character the Dalziel or his sidekick Pascoe
