You have to suspend belief completely if you are going to listen to this book in full. No police force would take on a new recruit without background checks, so Lucy would have had no chance with her father a local 'Mr Big' of crime. She spends most of her time as a relatively new detective constable working alone, going into what are clearly dangerous situations without calling for assistance, manages to dodge salvos from sub-machine guns and wrestle with murderers, and all apparently with no sleep and no food or drink apart from the occasional lager! She is supposed to be fit, but her only exercise seems to be running after villains. And, of course, we have to have the cliche of a slender young woman riding a 900 cc Ducati motorbike - very unimaginative. Having lived on the outskirts of Greater Manchester for years, the amount of crime depicted in this book is absolutely unbelievable - gunmen running through the streets? I don't think so! I am amazed that the author didn't make more effort to make this detective novel more believable. It was also incredibly gory. Not for me: this is the first and last by this author that I shall listen to.
