Publisher's Summary

A young woman falls to her death. The only people with her are four schoolfriends. One - or maybe all of them - is responsible. Twenty years later someone is intent on letting them have their just desserts. DCI Andrew Fenwick is soon caught up in a desperate race against time to find the murderer before he completes his bloody vendetta. As the death toll mounts, he must draw the predator out of the shadows and into an unconventional trap with the ultimate bait.

Kept me listening

Elizabeth Corley is a new author for me and on the strength of this book I'll be down-loading more of her works. Early on I was afraid that the story would involve graphic descriptions of violence or torture, but happily that wasn't the case: the author left it to our imagination, which I prefer. The structure of the book, told mostly in the present tense, gives the impression of actually following a police investigation as it happens which adds to the tension and desire to keep listening. As with most detective fiction it depends on complex motives and many diversions in the investigation. I got a real feeling, though, of how frustrating it can be for detectives when clues lead to no progress.
I have a few niggles about accuracy, such as depicting psychiatric treatment more suited to a Victorian novel, but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the book.

Sheer Genius!

This is possibly the best book I listened to or read all year! Try it out for its engrossing plot and the very human characters who people this world. Gripping!
