Very well written story. Old school feel, very 1970s. The story was fast paced and had no fluff. It filled in the back stories when needed and made you enjoy the company of the characters. Small town life mixed with big city brutality brings the realities of the drug trade to life. As soon as the book was finished, I went looking for a potential next book, not because it leaves off on a cliffhanger (it does not), but because i enjoyed living in their world and did not want to leave. I highly recommend this book.
J. Rodney Turner did a great job. As soon as I heard his voice, i realized he had also narrated Hell Hollow. His voice and accent bring an authenticity to the southern stories he narrates, whether it is a western, cops and robbers or coming of age horror. I definitely look forward to more by Mr. Turner in the future.

Almost halfway through the book, the story progressed without any set direction. I couldn't understand where the story was heading. When it did start moving in one direction, that wasn't still interesting and didn't excite me.
I'm quite bewildered by the actions taken by the main characters in this book. They are never consistent. And are pretty idiotic / unbelievable most of the time. They keep the story moving, but are otherwise glaring mistakes.
Even the climax of the book wasn't all that thrilling.
