He is getting better and better!

Enjoy listening to these stories! I started at the beginning and as the books go on you see the growth and maturity as a detective. It was a bit of a bungle at first
This book shows his intuition and skills developing into a " Philip Marlow" or "Sam Spade".

Beware of the Ripples of the Past

Out of the Past is the fifth installment in the Reed Ferguson Mysteries. In this adventure, Reed is abducted and taken to a wealthy business mogul who wants him to act as body guard to his spoiled, bratty daughter as the father believes her life is in danger. Reed reluctantly accepts the assignment after being threatened with disclosure of an unsavory event in his past. In true Reed Ferguson style, however, nothing ever goes smoothly and a simple body guard assignment becomes a complex, multi-generational mystery which includes a shady past.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. There were many twists and turns and the ending was rather unexpected. The Gooofball Brother and Cal make appearances and bring the comic relief. The spoiled daughter was very unlikeable and, at times, I just wanted to smack her. This installment held a bit less of the film noir feel but still reflects Pawlish’s trademark style.

Johnny Peppers is always a treat to listen to. He has a smooth easy listening voice that fits so well with the tenor of the book.

Out of the past

I don't know if it was because this is the first book in the series that I listened too and I missed too much by not starting with the first book in the series or what. I didn't connect with any of the characters. It had the makings of a good story but lacked character development and depth to the story.

Out of the Past

What did you love best about Out of the Past?

When he confronted the kids about their "society."

What was one of the most memorable moments of Out of the Past?

Can't say spoiler alert!

What does Johnny Peppers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He fits the voices in so well, from Reed, to Willie, to the Goofballs.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not extreme, but her books always make me laugh!

Any additional comments?

I noticed. there isn't any audio starting on book 8, That's when I will stop with you! Stay with the same narrator!!!!!

Out of the past

I loved this hard core detective story! It reminded me of the old tv shows from the 60's and 70's.

Good noir

Another noir to enjoy, with Reed being in the thick of it, the job was more than he though, and so was murder. Good and enjoyed, given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
