Publisher's Summary

Jeremy Clyde Stars as Chief Detective Inspector Alleyn in two BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatizations.

Opening Night
Tensions are running high on the first night of a new play. When the leading actor is found gassed in his dressing room, it looks like suicide. It soon transpires, however, that he was widely detested, and almost everyone in the theatre had a possible motive for his murder. It's down to Inspector Alleyn to discover who acted upon their grudge. When in Rome
Alleyn is in Rome, traveling incognito on the trail of an international drug racket. His path crosses the members of the Sebasstian Mailer's tour group, all of whom seem strangely unperturbed that their guide has disappeared in the depths of a Roman basilica. Then a body is found in an Etruscan sarcophagus, and Alleyn is very much concerned.
Michael Cochrane, David Swift, and Nick Waring are amongst the cast in these two atmospheric adaptations of novels by Ngaio Marsh.

A great book and author

This is a great book with two separate stories. I really recommend this author and book.

Major part of the story left out

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this version of Opening Night to a friend as the love story in the book has been completely excluded. This diminishes the story considerably. Very disappointing.

When in Rome is basically the same story as in the book and reasonably abridged.

What will your next listen be?

Something from my Wish List.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Do you think Opening Night & When in Rome (Dramatised) needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No follow-up book needed - just a more complete story for Opening Night.

Any additional comments?

I realise that abridged versions of books will have to leave out parts of the original story, but to leave out significant elements seems quite wrong.
