Publisher's summary

In this chilling psychological thriller, one woman's dark past becomes another's deadly future.

In 2003, 16-year-old Rebecca Winter disappeared.

She'd been enjoying her teenage summer break: working at a fast-food restaurant, crushing on an older boy, and shoplifting with her best friend. Mysteriously ominous things began to happen - blood in the bed, periods of blackouts, a feeling of being watched - though Bec remained oblivious of what was to come.

Eleven years later she is replaced.

A young woman, desperate after being arrested, claims to be the decade-missing Bec.

Soon the imposter is living Bec's life. Sleeping in her bed. Hugging her mother and father. Learning her best friends' names. Playing with her twin brothers.

But Bec's welcoming family and enthusiastic friends are not quite as they seem. As the imposter dodges the detective investigating her case, she begins to delve into the life of the real Bec Winter - and soon realizes that whoever took Bec is still at large and that she is in imminent danger.

Nothing Special!

Lately, I'm not having much with books claiming to be psychological thrillers, like Girl On The Train and Gone Girl. This story was OK, but certainly not suspenseful! Almost all of the characters that the author created were strange, probably to confuse the listener. So many of the events that happened to Beck were never explained. Definitely loose ends. Also, there was no real point to the author introducing animal cruelty to the story. Thank goodness I purchased this audiobook as the daily deal, but I still intend to return it and hopefully, find a better selection next time.

Great ending!

I almost gave up on this book but I'm glad I stuck with it. The beginning was interesting and it had me wondering how it could possibly end for Bec (the main character). There were a lot of detours and story lines after that and it seemed a bit muddled. Then the ending came practically out of no where. It had so many twists and turns in the last couple hours (of audiobook) that I didn't see most of them coming. Right up until the end, there were more surprises. Hard to dislike a book that has such an exciting wrap-up!

holds interest, well paced

this was a decent suspense-thriller, well written, unfolds at a good pace, and you don't have to "get into it" since it is interesting from the very beginning. The minor aspect keeping my rating higher is that the ending came out of nowhere, there were not enough clues or hints throughout the book to make the conclusion sound and in flow with the book.

brilliant!

I listen to thrillers all the time, but this is the first one that genuinely spooked me in YEARS. Brilliant, from start to finish!

Who Are You

This novel started off with a bang and just went down hill turning to an unbeliveable thud. The ending was so far fetched, I simply shook my head and wonder how this writer thought that ending was fit for the story she told. SMH.....a disappointment if I could say worse I would...totally lost in translation novel. 1 Star for narrator only.

Awesome

I listened to this book in its entirety one day at work. It was a great listen. I didn't love the very first chapter but it picked up the pace and was a refreshing and new premise. Loved the surprises and twists. And the ending was great.

Blown away

To the author I say BRAVO!!! This story had me captivated from beginning to end. The ending was just so intense and mind glowingly crazy!!! I was maybe a chapter or two from the end when a voice mail came in and beeped in my ear and I just jumped out of my skin. The characters were so intense in every sense of the word. I kept guessing as to who took her, who killed her?! The main character was possibly borderline crazy herself with all the facades and ways she adapted to appease others. As if she knew what they needed to wanted her to be in that moment. She shared a lot of similarities with Becca as well that would made you think twice as to her being her. I was fully captivated by this book and I am just in awe at the amazing story I just had the honor to listen to. The narrator was great and her voice so perfect for the part. I fully enjoyed this and I am definitely a fan of this author!!! Can't wait to read another book that gets me so captivated!!

Forgettable

No character development to speak of. Aspects of plot that are/aren't explored don't add up to a meaningful narrative. Attempted "surprise" at the end is obvious and the way it is treated is simultaneously forced and neglected.

There are so many GOOD psychological thriller kidnapping/missing person novels on the shelves. Skip this one.

Maybe if I was 15 or 16....

Entirely too far fetched and immature for me to believe or to enjoy.
The narrator wasn't bad, although she usually sounded like she was whispering.
I'm not even sure how I finished it.

Loved it!

I couldn't stop listening to this book. And was totally blind sided at the end. Would recommend to anyone that likes suspense novels and trying to piece the puzzle together!
