Publisher's summary

In Stephanie Plum's opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in New Jersey. Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but figures she can learn what it takes to catch a crook. Her first assignment: nail a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one - who also happens to be the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie's virginity at age 16. This is the first in Evanovich's incredibly popular Stephanie Plum series.

I love this book. I had to buy the CJ Critt one

I absolutely love Janet Evanovich and all of her story is in the Stephanie Plum series is my favorite. I just couldn't get into Lori Petty being Stephanie Plum. I don't know for some reason CJ critt is more Stephanie Plum to me. I couldn't finish the book I got like halfway into the first chapter and I bought the other one.

Fun

What a fun book with colorful characters, and the reader does a great job. Even the supporting characters are interesting. It's empowering to read about a tough-woman character (especially when we're allowed to hear her thinking about how unsure she is) even though it's fiction.

A bit predictable

This is an entertaining yarn, but the plot has some cliches and standard characters that, while colorful, have been over-used in crime fiction.

Okay but not a favorite

The narrator was GREAT. I do not understand what others were taking about. I just thought the story was so-so.

I'll give the next one a try.

Always Fun

I love the Stephanie Plum series, but I wish that Audible had the books unabridged. If you're new to this series, I recommend that you pick up a hard-copy or find an un-cut audio version -- you'll miss a lot of the jokes and character background with this version!
