Time well spent

This is a very well written story with likable characters and an intriguing plot. Emily's characters is brave and smart. I enjoy the way she interacts with her family and solves the murder. The story is realistic and has a good pace. I look forward to other books in this series.

A wonderful mix of history and fiction.

A couple on vacation to see their grandchildren get mixed up in murder. The characters make this book worth every second. I received this audiobook for free, but voluntarily reviewed.

The audio edition is almost better than the print version.

Emily, get your license.

I have two pieces of advice for retired police officer Emily and her husband. First, you both seem destined to be stumbling over corpses during your travels, so Emily should think seriously about getting a P.I. license. Second, STAY AWAY FROM GARAGE SALES!

I enjoyed this book very much, but I have to take off a star for the fact that I tagged the killer almost immediately. I just didn't know exactly WHY, which was reason enough to keep listening. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the scenes of the grandkids driving the adults crazy. It all sounded very true-to-life to me.

The narrator does a fine job with this series, and she's easy to listen to. Over all, it was an enjoyable listen.

Refreshing mystery

Where does On the Road to Where the Bells Toll rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the first series I've read from the writer, I would have to put it on a must read list for cosy mystery fans.

What did you like best about this story?

It's refreshing, getting to know all the new players and seeing the world thru the eyes of everyone is relaxing.

Have you listened to any of Jane Oppenheimer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first by this reader, and I loved it, she has branded the series for me, I don't think I could enjoy it with someone else reading it. Super amazing work.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really love when winter and her grandfather had time one on one, its simple and a little bit filler, but just shows how we all have layers and people can shock you at the oddest of times. and I also love the chapters with bells and all the info and how well the writer talked about them.

This is a lovely series and worth the read, good plot, refreshing style and a nice look at life and its many changes. I received this title for free in exchange for an unbiased review.

Enjoyable fun traveling on the road!

The On the Road series is enjoyable fun! After reading the first book in the series, I couldn't wait to read the second. I wasn't disappointed!

Emily and Stan continue on their way to visit their daughter and her family in Boston over the 4th of July. While watching the fireworks they trip over a dead body only to be recognized as a woman Stan had met with just the day before.

M.J. Williams develops the characters of Emily and Stan to the point they become like next door neighbors or an aunt and uncle you would love to know. I found their granddaughters to be much like my own, totally enjoyable and irritating too!

Jane Oppeneimer is an excellent narrator bringing the characters alive.

Great Story

What made the experience of listening to On the Road to Where the Bells Toll the most enjoyable?

I've been on the Freedom Trail many times, but knew nothing about the bell tollers and the burials.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Good twists and turns

What about Jane Oppenheimer’s performance did you like?

Jane was great as a narrator. She expressed exacberation towards "younger generation" perfectly!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The seagull poop caused me to burst out laughing in the doctors office no less!

Fun Ride

Easy relaxing listen! I was in the mood for a book that didn't cause nightmares; and without course language, child abuse, gratuitous sex, or graphic violence. This book fit my criteria. Enjoyed listening to the travels around the Boston area and the family involvement (especially, one of the granddaughters) in solving the mystery.

I had a slight problem with narration. Sometimes I couldn't discern the characters as the narration was too similar.

After this 2nd in the On The Road Mystery series, I look forward to listening to the 1st in the series. I don't feel I missed any of the backstory by not listening to the 1st in the series before the 2nd.

Suspenseful

You kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Emily had the patience of Job when traveling in the RV with her husband when he takes the wrong exit.
