Publisher's Summary

In the morning they gave Reacher a medal. And in the afternoon, they sent him back to school.
Night School takes Reacher back to his army days, but this time he's not in uniform. With trusted sergeant Frances Neagley at his side, he must carry the fate of the world on his shoulders in a wired, fiendishly clever new adventure that will make cold sweat trickle down your spine.

Not as riveting as usual

I always enjoy Reacher books but this one was a bit "meh" for me. Hard to pinpoint why, exactly but it was very detailed, lots going on, lots of names and not always as pictorial as his narrative usually is. Might have been me just having a bad day and I will go back and have another listen down the track but it won't be one I will be clamouring to listen to again

Reacher good, narrator not

I've listened to all of the Reacher books in the series. On the whole the story was fine if not a little unexciting compared to others.

But I don't think Jeff nailed it with this performance. He has a good Reacher voice but throughout the book he sounded really flat. Sometimes this works because Reacher himself is flat but in this case I noticed and it got a little tiring.

During scenes with multiple voices it sometimes got a little confused who was talking. He didn't switch voices properly. It's probably difficult to do and not world ending just my observation.

Overall I liked the book and fans of the series will like it too. But it's not awesome. Also, personally, I prefer books which continue the timeline rather than being set in Reacher's past. I get the feeling Lee Child might have written himself into a corner in that regard. I really hope he finds a way out.

Really Disappointed

I've read all of the Reachers as hardbacks and love them. Formulaic in places but isn't that what fans find most comfortable? Reacher doesn't change for anyone and he's a great character for it.

I have started listening to the books now and have been enjoying the performances on the whole. Jeff Harding normally gives excellent character performances and of course breathes life into the main man where Hollywood has failed.

I'm afraid I disagree with some other reviewers here in that I have had to stop listening because of the poor performance. The character dialogue is fine but the narrator sounds like he's reading the story to us for the umpteenth time because we have failed to understand all his other attempts. His voice sounds exasperated and slightly irritated and this phrasing and intonation is repeated for sentence after sentence.

I'm now so aware of this that I miss whole chunks of the story because I'm thinking about the way it's being read. Maybe it's just me and Mr Harding is right to be irritated!

I'm going to buy the book in paper form and try again with the story - who knows, it could be the way it's been written and actually does read like a long forensic report.

Planning for the worst, hoping for the best!

A good story let down by average narration.

A good story once again from Lee but what was Jeff Harding doing? Most of the story was like he was reading bulletted points and finishing sentences with an upward inflection. Drove me nuts. I don't recall his previous narrations being this annoying. Usually very good. Also the editting was at times distracting will pregnant pauses. not good
