An interesting and different thriller

4.5 out of 5 stars

This was one of those books that I probably wouldn't have tried on my own (at first glance) if I didn't like the author. I'm not someone who is super interested in Burning Man, but I have to be completely honest with you -- this one surprised me.

Jennifer O'Donnell narrates Neon Fever Dream and does a wonderful job. I really like the way that her narration frames Peper's work. It's easy to listen to without being jarring or lulling you to sleep. This isn't my first or last O'Donnell narrated audiobook.

The start of the book was definitely a character building moment -- but it quickly switched into high gear and things started to fall quickly into place. Honestly, once I thought I understood what was going to happen with this book it took another twist that I didn't see coming. I love a book that can do that. I read a good amount of books and any book that can keep me on my toes is a winner in my book.

Asha as the main character worked for me. Peper has this way of writing these strong and powerful women -- but still make them vulnerable. Not to the lay person, but Asha (and Peper's other leading ladies) always have that one person or vice that will break them down and allow them to be themselves. It's refreshing to read a strong and powerful leading lady that feels real. Peper is always able to write someone like that, and Asha definitely falls into this category.

Honestly, I can't do a "proper" review, since talking about a lot of the best parts would really be just giving you spoilers. Let's just say, if you like thrillers and books that keep you guessing, Neon Fever Dream should definitely be an enjoyable book for you.

I received a free copy of this book, this did not affect my review of this book at all.

Paradox, bravery, and suspense

An amazing adventure that blends intelligent story telling, deep character analysis, and subtle paradox.
My fascination with burning man helped too!

Action packed in a unique location

I've been to Burning Man a number of times and was intrigued by a thriller set at the annual festival.

The author figured out an interesting way to get international crime into the gathering of tens of thousands of creative partiers and came up with diverse characters to lead us through the adventure.

Fun stuff!
