Publisher's Summary

The Executioner is a new type of criminal. In a letter to The Times, he announces his intention of personally restoring the death penalty, and within a week, his first victim is swinging at the end of a rope. Hardened criminals shiver in their cells wondering who will be next. Detective Inspector Glass of Scotland Yard is racing around the country - seaside discos in Blackpool, the black ghettos of Liverpool, and the once peaceful Carlisle - trying to solve the Post Office Robberies case. Will he find the thieves before The Executioner gets to them, as the trail centres on a crowded Bank Holiday football match in London?

Echoes of the Bad Old Days

The plot is good and the narration comfortable to listen to. But I shall be checking the "first published" date in future - I found Glass' 1970s attitudes too distracting. Drinking large amounts of alcohol and then cassual sex with a prostitute? No problem! Some may find it refreshing not to be reminded of the dangers of drinking and driving, or of AIDS, but I found myself getting cross with the 1970s macho sleaze.
